Project
Support all phases of Innovation Venture Projects from Discovery through Development and Transitioning to the business by managing supply chain for fast prototyping and manufacturing process scale-up and qualification at internal and external technology partners.

Tasks

• Identify and establish interfaces with internal and external technology sources relevant to existing and emerging manufacturing needs of the IVG programs

• Manage interactions to manufacture and deliver prototypes to the customer

• Develop options and build prototypical supply chain models and evaluate their potential for the cost effectiveness to provide input to the development of new business models

• Manage transition of manufacturing processes developed under IVG programs into ISCL, including those at external technology partners/vendors, from development to full scale manufacturing, ensuring adequate process capability and delivery times

• Support a broad range of IVG programs with building cost models and identifying strategies for optimizing the new products cost structure


Requirements

• Broad background in materials and process, including metals, ceramics, coatings, powders

• In-depth knowledge and experience with manufacturing processes in more than one technology area

• Must have background and experience in New Product Platform development, with strong emphasis on the scale-up and introduction to manufacturing

• Ability to interact with Project teams to proactively make recommendation for prototyping and manufacturing paths, considering various alternatives

• Work independently in proactively identifying manufacturing capability needs for wide variety of IVG projects

• Ability to work independently to identify and tap into the right resources at Kennametal plants and global R&D sites is critically important

• Demonstrated proficiency with Lean and Six Sigma tools

• Good knowledge of internal Kennametal manufacturing processes including powder metallurgy of hardmetals and ceramics.

• Prior experience in building cost models and ability to understand effect of the various cost components on the project financials is desired

• BS in Material Science or Metallurgy, with M.S. strongly preferred
