Job Description | We are seeking a talented Optical Engineer to design high performance modulators for long haul data transmission systems at 100Gb/sec to 400Gb/sec data rates. This Designer will be responsible for optical waveguide and RF electrode design of lithium niobate telecom modulators. This includes brainstorming and modeling of patentable novel ideas for improving performance. Experience with optical waveguide modeling (BPM and mode solvers) will be necessary.
The Designer will report into JDSU’s Lithium Niobate Chip Design Group, creating chip designs for foundry photomasks; will also assist in data analysis of DOE’s, other experiments, and initial production data using Matlab, MiniTab, or JMP software.
Keys to Success:
• Experience with modeling and design of lithium niobate modulators for telecom (100G, 200G and 400G), CATV, and Government/Aerospace products (fiber-optic gyro and microwave link applications). • Working knowledge of optical and RF waveguide physics. • Experience with Beam Propagation Modeling of optical waveguide devices and Coplanar Waveguide RF electrode design. • Experience with modulator performance modeling (Monte-Carlo, s-parameter, eye diagrams, constellation diagrams) • Experience with HFSS or other microwave electromagnetic simulation tools desired. • Experience with statistical data analysis tools, Design Of Experiment (DOE), and robust design desired, for example JMP and Mintab software, desired.
Basic Qualifications:
**This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. Persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. Person as a U.S. Citizen or National, U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, Refugee, or Temporary Resident granted amnesty.
