Machinist Specialist-CNC Programmer

Job Description
SCOPE:
To set up and program CNC (computer numerical control) equipment, as well as conventional equipment by developing new processes and making new fixturing and tooling, ultimately to produce machined parts and components, while maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.

To repair machine tools and die tooling, set up and adjust production machinery, fit and assemble components and machine parts to close tolerance, verify dimensions of machined tools and parts using precision measuring instruments, maintain, repair and calibrate precision measuring instruments, document and report deviations from specifications and tolerances.



TRAINING, EDUCATION, and or EXPERIENCE
1.5+ years of Machinist experience with conventional and CNC equipment, as well as punch tooling (Unittool. Unipunch). Strong experience with Haas CNC vertical and horizontal milling equipment is a plus.
2.High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.



DUTIES / SKILLS:
1.Skillfully operates manual vertical mills, engine lathes, surface grinders, CNC vertical and horizontal mills.
2.Plans set-up and machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
3.Sets-Up, programs, and documents, the processes needed for operations into the CNC equipment and/or other support equipment.
4.Assigns, directs, and trains other Set-Up personnel and operators in the programming and operation of same equipment.
5.Verifies and records settings, by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces; adhering to Shapes and international standards.
6.Champions: First Piece, Samples and New Processes thru the system, delivering completed product or finalizing robust processes.
7.Evaluates and documents the existing work methods to improve quality and efficiency.
1.Reviews the operation of CNC machines to monitor performance and adjust programs as required to maintain optimum cycle time and product quality.

Job Requirements


RESPONSIBILITY:
1.Ensures the required record keeping, either manual or by use of computer is maintained.
2.Notifies the Department Manager or General Foreman of any difficulties or problems concerning the activities of the department.
3.Maintains an acceptable level of housekeeping at all times, and ensures the proper storage of materials.
1.Enforces all established safe work procedures. Assists machine operators in the safe and proper operation of machines.



Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence



Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as, lengths, widths, depths, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and trigonometry.



Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
