Infinera is looking for a motivated and experienced optical engineer to join the Optical Architecture team. The individual will be a key contributor to the architecture and design of Infinera's optical line system products. He/she will be the owner of system performance requirements and their translation to detailed optical HW architecture and SW controls design in collaboration with Systems Engineering and SW Development teams. This is a leadership opportunity to help define the next generation of Infinera's transmission system.
Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:
Architecture and design of Infinera's transmission system line cards based on product requirements, including optical amplifiers, ROADMs, optical switches
Perform optical power flow budgeting, noise figure calculations and analytical simulations of line card performance based on system design goals/metrics
Design optical performance monitoring and control algorithms to run-time optimize system bring up and end-to-end optical performance
Interface extensively with product planning and system architecture teams as well as with HW, SW, FPGA and DSP engineers to drive the product from conception to prototype
Job Requirements
Minimum Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
In-depth knowledge of optical communication systems, linear and nonlinear impairments and design tradeoffs, including cross-talk, gain flatness, noise-figure cascading, filtering penalties, CD, PMD, SPM, XPM, FWM etc
Extensive experience in EDFA and Raman amplifier design
Extensive experience in ROADM and optical switching technologies
Expertise in statistical analysis techniques and associated software
Familiarity with standard industry product life cycle
Ability to work under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines in a dynamic collaborative environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional role
Programming experience in various languages (e.g., VB.NET, MATLAB, C, C++, python)
Education Required:
Ph.D. with >5 years direct experience in the optical communications industry
Hands-on experience with basic optical communication building blocks including optical amplifiers, coherent transponders and other DWDM equipment
Knowledge of optical components/subsystems calibration, bring-up and optical verification process |
