Job Description | Description – This position is responsible for supplying manufacturing and testing engineering support in the design, analysis, investigation and/or solution of novel complex optical manufacturing processes and equipment. The position will provide engineering support to processes and equipment in the R&D area and on the production floor. This position will interact with all departments and will frequently work with production floor personnel to determine, evaluate and execute process improvements as part of an R&D or manufacturing engineering initiative. Work with a team to solve problems relative to materials, tools, machine settings, product specifications, metrology, thin film coating and fabrication methods for optical manufacturing production processes.
Duties – * Provide hands-on technical support with respect to fabrication and metrology to R&D and manufacturing personnel. * Assist with the training of production supervisors and workers with respect to R&D developed processes, tooling, and equipment. * Responsible for planning, defining, and developing operational methods and procedures for optical component fabrication. * Guide technical staff engaged in developing materials for specific uses in projected products or devices. * Perform project management functions such as preparing proposals and budgets, analyzing labor costs, and writing reports. * Compile data and write reports regarding existing and potential engineering studies and projects.
Requirements – BS degree in Mechanical/Optical/Chemical engineering or similar engineering or physics. Experience with glass science, optical test set-ups and/or CAD assisted drawing software is desired. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent problem solving skills. A fundamental knowledge of optical materials, optical fabrication and thin film coating technology is a plus. Ability to collect, interpret and document data. A highly developed set of interpersonal skills. The ability to assess complex issues and develop appropriate solutions.
