Plant Controller

Job Description
The Plant Controller is the key individual for all finance-related matters related to our manufacturing facility in Smithfield, RI. Our drug, Soliris, is produced at the Smithfield facility and also by a third party contractor. The facility also has a pilot plant which produces other drugs in our pipeline on a smaller scale.

The primary focus of the position is to provide financial leadership to manufacturing operations and inventory accounting. The Plant Controller will report to the Director of Finance - Global Tech Ops and will serve as a key member of the financial management team to improve, share, and develop consistent procedures and strategies to focus on the future needs of Alexion.

The specific roles and responsibilities of the Plant Controller include the following:

Function as business partner with Manufacturing and Quality to effectively manage and control all facets of the plantís efficiency and productivity

Lead all aspects of accounting/finance within our Smithfield facility, including resolution of issues related to inventory, accounts payable, materials management and purchasing

Utilize SAP ERP, BPC, and BI to leverage financial reporting to senior management in HQ and business management in Smithfield, including summary analyses of period costs and manufacturing variances

Support development of manufacturing budgets and review departmental expenses for multiple manufacturing cost centers

Support processes for forecasting cost of sales for Soliris produced at ARIMF, with focus on issues such as yield variability, plant downtime and standard costing

Establish and implement inventory policies related to obsolescence, physical inventory and cycle counts, cost of sales and variance analysis

Develop and analyze reports that identify business developments and trends, including interpretation of standard costs, variances and key metrics

Review monthly analyses and key account reconciliations for inventory/COGS for monthly and quarterly closing process

Assist in annual SOX Compliance process, which includes updating process narratives, policies and involvement in PwC year end audit and control tests

Education/Experience Requirements:

Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Finance or related field with CMA and/or CPA

7+ years of financial experience

Prior experience in manufacturing environment with SAP and bio-tech experience a plus
