Principal Engineer, Controls Programming
A PLC Programmer is responsible for programming automation and controls systems involving PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) on the automation products designed and developed at MTS.
Essential Functions:
•Design and develop controls programs (PLC and PC based) based on standard programming methods
•Debug and commission control systems at our facilities during the system integration stage
•Provide ongoing product support for products deployed at customer sites
•Select, test, and integrate hardware and software components such as robots, analog devices, motion controllers, sensors, vision systems, lasers, and other control related hardware
•Work with other members of the control systems design team, and other groups to continuously improve methods of integrating controls technology, with the goals being enhanced safety, enhanced functionality and reduced cost
•Work with project managers, customers, designers, toolmakers, and electricians to solve problems in order to provide the customer with a complete functional system
•Provide thorough testing of machine functionality to verify that the software program meets the project requirements
•Crete and maintain accurate and detailed documentation
•Willing to travel to Beta customer Beta products and implementations
Required Knowledge and Skills:
•A BS in Electrical, or Computer Engineering is desired
•A minimum of 5-10 years hands-on programming and troubleshooting experience with current controls hardware and PLC programs using Omron and /or Allen Bradley controllers. Prior experience hybrid approach using PLC and PC based architecture is a plus
•Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written
•Hands-on experience with robotics, control systems, and machine operation
•Capable of trouble shooting various equipment
•Ability to create and update electrical schematics is a plus
•Understand PLC I/O discrete and analog wiring standards and implementation
•Ability to create and read logic and flow diagrams for program design, programming, simulation and testing, and start-up
•Proven track record in developing and implementing standard electrical engineering practices
•Basic understanding of software development practice and patterns
•Experience in Pharmacy Automation is a plus
