Carpenter Technology Corporation, a world leader in the manufacture and distribution of specialty alloys and engineered materials, has an opening for an experienced Metallurgist in Primary Melting located in Reading, PA.
This position is to provide technical support to Arc Melting operations – static casting and continuous casting. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing the technical and quality aspects of arc melted material for compliance to internal melt procedures, quality acceptance standards, and frozen practice vendor approved procedures and criteria. The candidate selected will be responsible for making disposition of referred, non-conforming and off-standard material, including but not limited to RMRs and customer claims. Additional areas of responsibility include procedure development and process optimization using SPC and variation reduction tools. This position will interact with operations, technology, and quality personnel as well as provide support for customer audits.
A BS or MS degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science, other engineering degrees may be considered. Experience and knowledge in primary melting in stainless steel and high temperature alloys is desired. Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills (both written and verbal), and problem-solving skills (including use of statistical methods) are also required. Six-sigma training/experience is desired but not a requirement.
