Job Description | Position Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will perform simulations for casting process, which include continuous casting, ingot casting, VIM, ESR and VAR. Assignments will include modeling of heat transfer, flow and segregation in these processes using commercial codes and conducting designed experiments for model validation. The candidate will interact with R&D Engineers within the group to build up models, and also interact with process engineers to analyze processing data.
Qualifications:
Applicants with knowledge and experience in the following areas are sought:
Process modeling skills including understanding of key principles of CFD modeling.
Familiarity with commercial finite volume and finite element packages would be beneficial.
Ability to link macro scale simulations to predict macro segregation and grain structure.
Exposure to controlled Directional Solidification experiments for model validation.
Familiarity with the physical metallurgy of alloy steels and superalloys.
Applicants must have a Ph.D in Materials Science and Engineering, and a strong background in mathematics. The candidate should have excellent oral and written communication skills.
