Purpose:
Owner of the overall performance of the Production Departments in achieving Safety, Quality, Waste and Productivity goals. This is done by managing the systems, employees, equipment and materials according to the established policies, procedures, specifications, and customer requirements.
Duties
•Acts as a safety leader and puts safety first in all responsibilities. Works in conjunction with the EHS Manager to establish and maintain all policies and programs to assure a safe working environment.
•Participates in incident investigations for near misses, injuries and/or property damage that occur in the functional areas.
•Identify opportunities and problem areas for targeted improvement by creating, reviewing and monitoring data or reports that show performance to KPI's. (specifically productivity, waste, quality and safety)
•Work with planning and maintenance to maximize equipment maintenance programs and prioritize the proper PM schedules which will insure mechanical performance.
•Works with engineering personnel in the role of a project team member for new machine installations and start-ups. Provides pertinent information to insure that all machine specifications, auxiliary equipment, installation, operator training, etc meet production needs.
•Implement work methods or procedures, with the approval of the Plant Manager, as necessary to improve the effectiveness of manufacturing departments.
•Development of production associates to increase human capital goals, including devising a training method/plan for continuous skill improvement.
•Manage salaried manufacturing leadership, including goal setting, improvement targets for KPI's, salary planning, performance management. Ensure that all responsibilities of direct reports are carried out to satisfactory level.
•Ensure compliance with department safety, product safety, fire protection and housekeeping programs.
•Plan, prepare for and present manufacturing updates for departmental and plant wide meetings. Ensure these meetings exist, occur, and have the right content to keep the plant on track with improvements and initiatives.
•Contribute to staff manager meetings and WCOM Steering Committee meetings.
•Contribute to plant Safety Steering Committee by representing manufacturing.
•Conceptualize and create implementation plans for process improvement efforts that ultimately influence the goals of manufacturing.
•Manage process control initiatives by ensuring manufacturing SOP's exist, and that they are sufficient for quality, safety, and process control.
•To facilitate and enforce all of the Company policies and procedures as they are outlined and defined.
•Participate in budgeting process, capital planning, cost take out, staffing, and other elements to ensure financial and operational objectives are met.
•Lead and ensure growth of WCOM initiatives by providing resources, participating in teams, and leading teams as necessary.
Education & Experience Required
Education/Experience
•A college degree in engineering or business administration is desirable.
•Should have five to ten years of middle management exposure to an hourly work force - preferably in the flexible packaging industry.
•Machine experience or training in flexographic printing techniques.
•Visits to customer operations to view end product usage are desirable

•Must possess computer skills to help analyze data, communicate metrics and share direction in written form. Typical skills would include e-mail, spreadsheets, word processing, and presentations.
•A strong understanding of Flexible Packaging technologies - the material, equipment and processes used in manufacturing these products is desirable.
Responsibility
•Assets and Operations - Responsible for all manufacturing equipment through effective utilization of manpower, materials and machinery.
•Methods and Procedures - Responsible for the uniform administration of all plant policies and departmental procedures. Makes recommendations for improvement of departmental procedures and implements with approval of Plant Manager.
•Records and Reports - Is responsible for completeness and accuracy of all production records and reports initiated in the printing department.
•Expenditures - Has a key responsibility for controlling monthly machine expenses, including maintenance, parts, production supplies, etc. in order to stay within budgeted levels.
•Supervision - Immediate supervision: Is directly responsible for supervisor of both hourly and salaried manufacturing staff. This includes providing direction and focus to their work activities, assigning special projects, performance evaluations, providing discipline and recognition, approving time off, settling grievances and counseling as needed. |
