MiRagen Therapeutics, Inc., a pre-clinical stage biopharmaceutical company, was founded in 2007 to develop innovative microRNA (miRNA)-based therapeutics for cardiovascular and muscle disease. MicroRNAs are short, single-stranded RNA molecules encoded in the genome that regulate gene expression and play a vital role in influencing cardiovascular and muscle disease.
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death globally and represents an enormous burden on global healthcare systems. MiRagen combines world recognized leadership in cardiovascular medicine with unprecedented in-house expertise in microRNA biology and chemistry. In October 2011, miRagen and Les Laboratoires Servier, a leading European pharmaceutical company, entered into a strategic alliance for the research and development of microRNA-based therapeutics in cardiovascular disease. The alliance further validates our innovative technology platforms and provides future opportunities for growth.
miRagen Therapeutics is currently seeking a Research Scientist capable of independently supporting the discovery, evaluation and pre-clinical development of novel RNA based therapeutic candidates. Primary duties include:
Oversight of key projects utilizing complex experimental design and execution
Evaluation/validation of new potential targets or chemical entities available through in-house discoveries, in-licensing or partnerships
Supporting external partnerships and collaborations through generation of scientific data required for timely project progress reports
Periodic presentations at both internal and external meetings
Supervision of at least one Research Associate
Suitable candidates will possess a Ph.D. in molecular biology or genetics and a minimum two (2) years post-graduate experience. Strong working knowledge in RNA mediated gene regulation in in vivo biology and tissue delivery systems required. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess the ability to effectively work and communicate within a multi-disciplinary team.
Proven ability to set-up and explore suitable in vivo efficacy models to validate potential miRNA therapeutic drug candidates.
Ability to elucidate and characterize key biochemical pathways involved in miRNA directed target gene regulation
Assay validation, troubleshooting, and optimization
Solid technical ability and hands-on experience with RNA methods including purification, analytical gel electrophoresis, PCR, and northern blotting
Protein isolation, purification, and analysis using techniques such as ELISA and western blotting
Experience in multidisciplinary collaborations with industry and academic investigators
Effective supervisory skills including the ability to manage, coach, train and motivate direct reports.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills necessary. Qualified candidates will have experience in one or more of the following: preparation peer-reviewed scientific publications, scientific meeting presentations, patent composition and/or technical writing.
