Senior Process Engineer

Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic, ambitious and creative Sr Process Engineer to lead the effort and provide technical process expertise to the facility production departments in the form of process improvement, quality improvement, cost reduction, trials and safety enhancement/troubleshooting. This position is also primarily responsible for the plant's resin, film and technical spec formulation and/or inks, solvents, adhesives and liquids formulations, working closely with Technical and Plant management in support of packaging projects including development and commercialization of new products.

Duties
Process
•Acts as a safety leader and puts safety first in all responsibilities.
•Initiates equipment, procedure and raw materials modifications to increase machine productivity and reduce waste.
•Troubleshoots manufacturing operations process problems coordinating solutions using in-house resources, contractors, and vendors, as appropriate.
•Provides leadership and direction in team-based and collaborative work environments including cross-functional work teams, investigations, and World Class Manufacturing initiatives.
•Trains machine operators on new formulations, equipment modifications and new operating procedures.
•Coordinates scheduling and supplying materials between internal manufacturing functions and external customers for multiple complex and wide-ranging engineering projects that may vary in terms of scope and responsibility.
•Maintains standard operating conditions system which ensures consistent manufacturing equipment processing conditions.
•Investigates causes of ongoing process, quality, production efficiency and high waste problems. Then develops solutions using problem solving techniques.
•Secures and maintains knowledge of current industry and Bemis best practices as they may apply to equipment and procedures used to produce and convert Bemis products.
•Acts as liaison between BPP central engineering and the plant on projects and trials.
•Facilitates updates to manufacturing departments on the status of above mentioned duties.

Product
•Develops and commercializes new and improved products.
•Writes project orders to manufacture new products.
•Analyzes results of lab and field trials and make recommendations based on trials.
•Conducts field trials and write trip reports as necessary.
•Translates observations in the field to process and product enhancements.


Education & Experience Required
•Must possess a Bachelor's degree in Chemical engineering, polymer science, or a very closely related engineering field along with 5-7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment utilizing WCOM/Lean, CI and TQM skills.


Skills & Abilities Needed
•Must possess Six Sigma certification as a Green or Black Belt and/or the willingness to obtain such certification.
•Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, to work with manufacturing personnel at all levels.
•Must demonstrate strong analytical and problem solving skills
•Proficient in the use of MS Office and Access software; knowledge of Mini Tab software desirable
•General knowledge of processes used in the manufacture of flexible packaging; especially extrusion, printing and laminating
•Must have strong time management skills to handle multiple ongoing projects and quality standards for those projects
