Job Description | Position Summary:
The Senior Product Engineer’s primary function is to design and engineer products for the Automotive Industry that satisfy agreed upon customer requirements. The Senior Product Engineer manages the product development cycle from concept to production and ensures products are developed within an agreed timeframe. The following skills/attributes are critical in order to achieve these objectives, to support project/program execution, and to meet engineering deliverables:
•Should have expert knowledge in the Product Development Process, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), and Project Management.
•Must be a leader with the personal drive, credibility, and personal charisma to win the confidence of customers and internal/external team members.
•Must be detail oriented, highly organized, and work independently as well as part of a cross functional team.
•Should be familiar with and have a proven knowledge of mechanism design, machined components, plastic parts, die casting, and sheet metal and must maintain competency and continuously improve knowledge and skills by remaining abreast of developments in these fields.
•Must be skilled in the use of CAD systems.
•Must be able to direct and interpret dimensional studies and FEA analyses.
•Must utilize and promote standardization, best design practices, and continuously seek ways to improve the design of products in the local site, and across Global Automotive sites by participation in problem solving exercises, focus groups, and VAVE.
•Must be capable of mentoring other Product Engineers, Entry Level Product Engineers, and Cad designers.
Position Responsibilities
•Interpret Customer requirements and write specifications that define those specifications internally.
•Following the established Product Development Process(KBD), plan projects, develop timelines, and develop checklists of tasks to meet Project/Program deliverables.
•Conduct or attend brainstorming sessions
•Develop Product Concepts.
•Conduct or attend cross functional team design and feasibility reviews.
•Support Commercial Leaders and Program Managers in developing new product costs and quotes.
•Support Application Engineers in product presentations to customers.
•Periodically accompany Application Engineers, Program Managers, and Sales on visits to current or potential customers.
•Manage the creation of cad designs and the generation of math data
•Create DFMEA’s
•Create DVP&R’s
•Conduct or interpret dimensional, FEA, and functional analyses. Make decisions or initiate action based on the results of the analyses.
•Coordinate product testing for design validation, design verification, product analysis/studies, benchmarking.
•Write Engineering change orders and engineering change requests if needed.
•Request component and assembly part numbers through document control.
•Coordinate tasks with Product Engineering Mgr, Program Manager, or Project Team Leadership to ensure program execution to customer required timing.
•Provide periodic and on demand project status reports to the Product Engineering Mgr., Program Mgr., and Project Team Leadership as needed.
Qualifications:
•BSME in Mechanical Engineering
•Strong communication skills (verbal & written)
•Excellent Interpersonal skills
•Must possess a minimum of two (2) years experience with CAD software (CATIA, UG, or PRO/E) including advanced surfacing techniques
•Must possess a minimum of two (2) years experience with best practices in the design of machines parts, die casting, metal stampings, and plastic parts. |
