Job Description Biogen Idec Analytical Development (AD) is searching for an accomplished analytical chemist to join its biopharmaceutical method development and characterization (MDC) group. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and application of assays for therapeutic proteins, and will establish a new working team at our site in Research Triangle Park, NC.
Responsibilities include:
•Developing and overseeing the development of chromatographic, electrophoretic, and mass spectrometric methods for use in lot release testing and/or characterization of various therapeutic proteins at all stages throughout the Biogen Idec development pipeline;
•Overseeing design and implementation of methods, method qualifications and transfers to QC, and supervising creation and review of necessary SOPs and development reports;
•Presenting scientific data and representing AD on crossfunctional teams;
•Serving as an MDC project lead on selected biomolecule programs, coordinating cross-site activities to support assay readiness, SAR studies, impurity identification, and new method development/crossovers;
•Identifying new analytical technologies and leading their assessment and potential implementation in AD.

Qualifications •Proficient and knowledgeable in chromatographic (SEC, IEC, RPLC), electrophoretic (CE, icIEF, SDS-PAGE), and mass spectrometric methods (peptide maps, intact mass determination) for analysis of therapeutic proteins, and the development and qualification of such methods.
•Experience in glycan analysis is highly desirable.
•Demonstrated ability to propose strategy and manage development, qualification, documentation, and transfer of assays.
•Prior experience managing direct reports in protein analytical method development and/or testing.
•Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
•Prior experience working in a biopharmaceutical product development environment and familiarity with GMPs and FDA/ICH guidelines is preferred.
•Good time and project management skills, ability to oversee several projects simultaneously.
Education Ph.D. in analytical biochemistry, biology, chemistry, or other related field + >5 years of protein analytical method development experience OR M.S. + 12+ years. Job title will be commensurate with experience.
