This position is responsible to proactively work with purchasing and plant quality manufacturing to improve new and current supplier performance through evaluation and use of APQP documentation, adequate use of process controls, adherence to control plan and systematic problem solving processes.
Responsibilities/Duties
•Conducts supplier surveys to evaluate supplier quality systems, technical and process capability, based on customer's quality, cost and delivery requirements.
•Support plant supplier performance review and undertake actions to resolve issues. Drive supplier performance to required levels (quality, service, delivery, and cost).
•Assist with the qualification and approval (PPAP) of new suppliers and support the maintenance of an approved supplier list.
•Work as Quality problem coordinator for plant supply chains to disposition corrective actions related to suppliers where appropriate or provide the assistance required to implement the improvements.
•Ensure completed analysis of Top Ten worst or other designated problem suppliers, recurring problems and lead corrective/preventive actions.
•Develop contingency plans and manage at risk suppliers.
•Assist direct material buyers in supplier capability and development for new program sourcing and/or resourcing programs.
•Train and support suppliers in their use of various quality prevention tools to ensure a defect free product.
•Work with suppliers to refine and enhance products and processes by applying continuous improvement and key lean manufacturing/production principles and techniques to assure quality of goods and services provided.
•Participate in continuous improvement, cost savings and process certification. This will include Kaizen and value stream mapping opportunities.
•Participate with purchasing in supplier contract review and contract administration to ensure there are adequate process controls for new programs.
•Manage the Supplier Quality Module in Plex Quality System; Work with Purchasing on prerequisites for minimum supply requirements.
•Perform other duties as required.
Required Experience
•5 years experience in manufacturing and quality systems improvements (supplier related).
•Certified Quality Engineer certification preferred.
•Working knowledge of PPAP, APQP, SPC, ISO9000, TS16949 including supplier audit and evaluation techniques.
•Working knowledge of the use of quality improvement methodology such as SPC, Six Sigma, Poka Yoke, manufacturing process flows, PFMEA, Control Plans, and automotive manufacturing requirements.
Required Education
•Bachelors Degree in engineering plus a minimum of 3 years related experience in supplier development or supplier quality assurance.
Preferred Qualifications
•Excellent communication skills; Advanced user of Microsoft excel and project; familiar with Access
•Above average Analytical skill; Good organization skills; Detailed oriented.
•Has led continuous improvement exercises through the use of DOE, Shainin and other data/analytical techniques.
•Travel Requirement is 50%. |
