| Job Description | Job Description: The Assistant Controller position will have broad responsibilities across all tax (in alignment with the tax staff), accounting (corporate, insurance and reinsurance), and financial reporting functions while monitoring/updating internal controls and performing quality control activities. This position will be a proactive change agent and will be guiding continuous improvement opportunities across the finance department. This person needs to have a strong background in either insurance tax accounting or statutory insurance accounting, with the ability and desire to grow into the other area. A CPA designation is desirable with a background in either public accounting or in insurance accounting/tax accounting. This position's other primary responsibilities will include provide general direction in completing the financial statements, provide direction with tax planning and accounting, manage reinsurance accounting and collections, and manage accounting policy.
Monitor and oversee the various steps and work of others in completion of financial statements and regulatory filings. Included is the ability to use desktop personal computer applications to accomplish the responsibilities in an efficient manner. Included is the ability to meet deadlines, provide timely updates, and complete complex analysis and understanding of requirements. Providing training in the important matters related to the statutory accounting for less experienced staff members is an integral part of this level.
Competence to work at the highest level of technical accounting, while understanding the insurance business is required. Confidentiality of financial information as well as other related personal matters is required. |
