As an associate product manager, you will help manage the product development process. With the buyer and product manager, you will help identify strategic opportunities to develop proprietary product to enhance and execute the buyer’s objectives both domestically as well as internationally. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Product Development

• Sourcing and placement of all programs (based on Buyer input) with vendors overseas, and where applicable, facilitating proprietary product development domestically.
• Build strong partner relationships with overseas vendors to ensure product development and sourcing objectives are achieved. Negotiate programs with overseas vendors ensuring BBBY is getting the lowest cost and maximum vendor support. Maintain daily correspondence with overseas vendors.
• Manage entire product development process including identification of item opportunities, execution, cost negotiation, on time delivery, quality assurance and testing.
• Work closely with design, buyers and Director of Brands to identify opportunities to expand propriety brands within the BBB assortments.
• Work with the buyers to establish and achieve financial objectives. Communicate daily with buyers on any pricing or delivery issues.
• Unpack and review product samples with product manager and buyers.
• Weekly Meetings
o Schedule weekly meetings with the Buyer(s) to review status of current projects, sales of current items and new opportunities.
o Meet with designer and packaging partner bi-weekly, review status of current projects sales of current items and new opportunities.
• Schedule pre-trip competitive shopping and Style Guide meeting with Buyer(s) so that the completed Style Guide can be forwarded to vendors and/or agents no less than 60 days prior to travel date.
• Travel domestically and internationally with buying and design teams to evaluate the viability of worldwide market and product opportunities.
• Manage and coordinate international trips for all travelers by creating proposed trip itinerary detailing cities, countries and vendors to be visited during sourcing trip. Review proposed trip with Product Manager and Director of Sourcing for approval no less than 60 days before travel date. Submit all necessary Visa applications for all travelers.
• Product Development Process / Sourcing Trip Follow Up
o Reviewing Quote Sheets, Calculating ELC’s, Negotiating with Vendors
o Requesting & Following up with Samples
o Providing product feedback to factories/agents
• Packaging Process:
o Responsible for packaging job requisitions, package dielines, photo samples, proofing layouts.
o Ensuring print proofs are on time and packaging does not delay shipment

Purchase Order Management
• Request finalized product sample from vendor
• Order Processing
o Review PO Worksheet, Pro Forma Invoice and Item Quote Sheet to ensure data is consistent across all documents.
o Forward copy of PO Worksheet to BBB Letter of Credit Coordinator as well as BBB Import Coordinator.
• Testing:
o Request Product and Transit Testing from vendor. Monitor Product & Transit Testing and troubleshoot failures.
o Review sample UPC ticket and Carton labels supplied by vendor.
• Coordinate with the BBB Packaging Dept to insure that the Buyer has submitted a packaging request form and that the artwork disk will be completed and released to the vendor no less than 60 days before the ship date from origin.
• Production Samples
o Receive and review final production sample with the Buyer for approval. Once approved, update E-Focus system to release PO for shipment when the vendor is ready.
• Shipment Logs
o Review factory Production Schedules
o Review weekly Shipment Logs provided by BBB Import Coordinator to track and manage open PO’s keeping the Buyer(s) updated on any possible delays.
o Update logs with all new orders and monitor status
• Visit BBB store after arrival of any new product to inspect product and packaging.

Business Maintenance
• Schedule meetings with Product manager to review project status, sourcing trips, Buyer / Planner issues, etc….
• Analyze performance of Import items suggesting to Buyer/Planner reorders if necessary.
• Ensure Vendor Profiles are updated annually.
• Track Vendor sales and markup TY vs. LY.
• Competitive shop monthly with Buyer(s) if possible identifying new product opportunities, competitive pricing, packaging ideas and new vendor information.
• Attend domestic trade shows with Buyer(s).
• Prepare placement summaries by country and by vendor indicating First Cost, Landed Cost, Retail and Mark up annually and project with Buyer next year’s business opportunities.



Job Requirements:

• Bachelors degree preferred
• Minimum of two to three years previous related experience required preferably in product development
• Proficient experience in Microsoft Excel and Access preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to think strategically and conceptually
• Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
• Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Must have a sense of urgency and a positive attitude.
