Description
The Respiratory group, within the department of Respiratory, Inflammation & Autoimmunity (RIA) at MedImmune LLC, is looking for a Research Scientist to join the group. This position will support preclinical respiratory research geared towards the identification and validation of molecular targets for the treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Experiments will be performed both ex vivo, as well as in vivo in mouse models of lung inflammation. The successful candidate will be required to use cell and molecular biological techniques to assess a variety of parameters from systems utilizing primary human and/or mouse cells, as well as animal models of disease The candidate will work in a team environment under supervision.

Requirements
Position:

*Strong in vivo skills, including handling of mice, the administration of agents via intraperitoneal or intranasal routes of injection, experience in the ex vivo preparation and handling of samples for molecular biology and histo-pathology analysis. Prior experience in respiratory biology is preferred.

*Strong skills in basic biochemical and molecular biology techniques including RNA isolation, cDNA preparation, quantitative PCR, Western blotting and ELISA.

*Previous experience with cell culture techniques including the passaging and maintenance of cell lines is required. Isolation and culturing of human leukocytes from peripheral blood and the isolation and culturing of murine leukocytes from bone marrow is a plus but not essential.

*Understanding of and experience with flow cytometry and flow cytometric analysis is a plus but not essential.

*Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as a team in a dynamic, fast moving, and highly matrixed research environment.

*Familiarity with scientific software such as Prism as well as Microsoft Office Suite is highly desired.

Education:
Bachelor of Science degree plus at least 5 years relevant experience OR Master's Degree and 2 years relevant experience
