Job Description
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs professional, technical laboratory functions; may assist in supervisory/managerial functions as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Implements and revises analytical methodologies by employing various analytical techniques and instrumentation.
Records, reports and reviews test results; prepare documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Performs all testing in compliance with cGMP.
Performs all testing in compliance with current safety regulations.
Conducts QC laboratory investigations.
Performs calibration and maintenance of analytical instruments as required.
Performs training and provide technical support to analysts.
Writes, revises and implements procedures, protocols and validation reports.
Completes any other duties assigned by QC management as required.
Job Requirements
ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: Minimum of Bachelors degree in chemistry or related field. Scientists will need 4+ years of appropriate professional experience and Associate Scientists will need 2-4 years of appropriate professional experience. Broad knowledge of scientific principles, methods, chromatographic analysis, analytical methods (i.e. HPLC, GC, Dissolution) and a good understanding of separation theories. Where appropriate the candidate must have broad knowledge in all types of compendia testing (USP, EP, JP, BP) and wet chemistry techniques. Good written English and verbal communication skills. Must be highly organized and able to work under pressure. Must have strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Must be computer literate with knowledge in all Microsoft business applications. A strong background in scientific software such as Waters Corp. Empower and LIMS is a plus.
SCOPE
JUDGMENT / DECISION MAKING: Under general direction toward broad assignments with periodic reviews. Duties are performed within framework of departmental or functional protocol requiring a high degree of original thinking.
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Moderate damage or loss possibility.
RESPONSIBILITIES FOR CONTACTS: Frequent internal contact and external contact requiring a high level of resourcefulness and tact.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: May include some supervisory responsibilities.
WORKING CONDITIONS
ENVIRONMENT: A laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals, caustics, fumes, heat and electrical current.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Visual acuity and manual dexterity required to operate computer, analytical instrumentation, sample preparation. Majority of time spent standing. Often required to lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
OTHER: Limited overnight travel. Some overtime required generally.
