Buzzi Unicem USA, a major US cement manufacturer, is looking for an Automation Engineer at

Our Chattanooga, TN plant is located at the foot of the scenic Signal Mountain and alongside the
Tennessee River. It was founded in 1921 and began producing clinker in 1923. The most recent
plant expansion, completed in 2001, allows the plant to produce over 820,000 metric tons of
cement per year. The plant ships cement by truck, rail and barge for consumption in nine states.
The highly automated plant utilizes a cross – belt analyzer for both limestone control at the quarry as well as on the raw mill feed conveyor, to ensure raw meal consistency and an online particle size analyzer to continuously control cement fineness.

In support of our growth, we are seeking to add an experienced Automation Engineer to our
team, whose primary responsibilities are to monitor and maintain plant control systems, as well as the plant’s Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS). The Automation Engineer will
write and troubleshoot programs in the HMI and Allen Bradley/GE Fanuc PLC’s and make
changes in logic and process controls within a cement manufacturing environment. The
candidate selected will be responsible for preventative/predictive maintenance of the control
system, with a focus on optimization and reliability of equipment.

The incumbent must monitor and maintain CEMS equipment, including calibration, maintenance, troubleshoot and repair to gas analyzer system. The candidate selected will conduct routine audits of CEMS to assess compliance with current and future environmental regulatory
parameters. The Automation Engineer must compile collected CEMS’ data into forms,
spreadsheets and formal documents and/or reports, which must be conveyed to management
and also to State and Federal agencies. The candidate must also maintain detailed records of
repairs and modifications to control logic and CEMS. The incumbent will be expected to work
with other departments on plant automation and process optimization.

Skills the candidate of this position must have are:
? B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field preferred
? 3 years of experience in the electrical or process control environment
? Preferable cement process knowledge
? Candidate should have strong HMI, PLC and instrumentation background
? Strong process controls and electrical skills with emphasis on process optimization
? Competency in reading and interpreting electrical diagrams and P&ID drawings
? Proven experience in PLC Logic and programming, as well as in HMI systems and
related hardware/software
? Ability to operate data acquisition/analysis systems and software
