Automation Process Engineer

Job Description
Develops and implements optimal, cost-effective automated manufacturing processes for the fabrication of large composite material based components in accordance with product specifications and quality standards; recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls; coordinates manufacturing launch for new or revised composite products. Develop new innovative processes to build transportation composite products focused at low cycle time, high rate production. Position will require supporting the specification, procurement, installation and use of new processing and manufacturing equipment, advanced tooling, automation for post-molding operations including part machining, finishing and coating.

Design, develop, test, and/or source and cost-justify various tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods. Confer with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of machinery and equipment according to specifications and quality standards.

Participate as the primary or supporting manufacturing engineer in the development of material processes and implementation of automated technologies for the fabrication of engineered composite structures meeting critical to quality performance criteria, cycle time production goals, as well as labor content and waste (offal) goals.

Perform or supervise the application of automation systems in the control and processing of fiberglass and carbon composite components. This will include programming of robotic systems, built for purpose machinery and other platforms designed, developed and configured for part manufacturing.

Coordinate the manufacturing launch of new/revised products including establishing goals, training team members, and evaluating results.

Confer with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.

Prepare and maintain detailed layouts of processes and related equipment.

Confer with sales, planning, and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods and quality results.

Apply statistical methods and perform product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency.

Represent manufacturing/engineering on cross-functional teams.
Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

The successful candidate will possess the following requirements:
B.S. degree or higher degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or recognized equivalent is required.
Minimum 3-5 years related experience required; with direct experience in related composite processing and manufacturing for automotive and transportation applications considered a plus or other composite experience preferred.

A background including experience or working knowledge of the principals of Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing practices.

CAD/CAM experience including proficiency with any or all of the following software environments: AutoCAD, Solidworks, CATIA V5, NX, MasterCAM or other CAD and CAE systems.

CNC machine programming and robotic programming

Machine tooling and tool design and molding operations including Resin Transfer Molding (RTM and RIM or SRIM), compression molding, reinforcement preforming technologies in support of composite part manufacturing.

Project Management: ability to organize and manage multiple products through manufacturing process.

Quality orientation and high attention to detail.
Ability to work with vendors, customers and employees.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Experience working with high performance teams. Ability to maintain a safe work environment.

Ability to perform problem analysis and problem resolution.
