Job Description | TGen?s Division of Pathogen Genomics is looking for a computer scientist to join the team. Researchers at TGen are leading cutting-edge scientific exploration that requires analysis of large DNA datasets, development and application of novel bioinformatics tools, and management of complex databases. The successful applicant will work closely with biologists to develop and apply microbial genetic bioinformatics tools, identify relevant data sources and tools, automate repetitive tasks, extract custom datasets, improve existing and develop new data analysis tools, and translate informatics tools into more polished tools suitable for wider usage or releaset o the scientific community.
Detailed Description
The successful applicant will be required to work independently and must be able to manage their time across multiple concurrent projects.
? Work closely with researchers to identify requirements,analyze and translate requirements into software specifications.
? Identify and use existing tools in an innovativefashion to meet captured requirements and address systems, data analysis, anddata presentation challenges.
? Design, implement, test, deploy, and documentsoftware to meet requirements.
? Maintain software.
? Develop and maintain analysis pipelines, verifyresults, and ensure scalability on large data sets.
? Bachelor?s or master?s degree in computerscience, bioinformatics, or a related field.
? Experience withcomputing (e.g. R, Matlab, S-PLUS), scripting (e.g. Perl, Python,PHP) andobjected oriented languages (e.g. java).
? Able to work inUnix/Linux and Windows/Mac environments.
? Familiarity with relational database management and webdevelopment.
? Experience in data visualization is desirable.
? Strong interest in pursuing career in academic orbiomedical research.
? Opportunity to work closely with translationalresearchers (bioinformaticists, clinicians, molecular microbiologists, etc.) onexciting large genomic datasets.
