Position Summary:

The algorithms and data analysis department seeks a talented and motivated individual to provide analytical support for clinical studies and internal product research and development efforts. The successful candidate will work closely with Affymetrix scientists in the design and analysis of statistical studies involving DNA microarray data for applications such as determining gene copy number and genotyping SNPs. This work will be conducted according to Affymetrix quality assurance policies and procedures and will be compliant with regulatory agency requirements.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Designs studies according to statistical design principles

Perform statistical analyses

Writes documentation

Writes software tools and scripts to collect, manipulate and clean large data sets

Applies statistical methods and interprets data

Develops new methods for resolving problems/issues

Develops new methodologies and algorithms for data analysis

Provides scientific expertise based on genetic, statistical, and scientific training

Works cross-functionally to assess and develop strategies for implementing platforms for research-use only and clinical applications

Participates in process and operation improvement opportunities

Responds to internal and external inquiries

Complies with company quality management systems, policies and procedures

Qualifications:

Masters degree or Ph.D. in Statistics or a closely related field

At least 3-5 years experience doing statistical analysis

Experience with microarray data and other types of large data sets

Experience with regulatory agency compliant work





Master's in Statistics
Ph.D. in Statistics or a closely related field

Yrs of related experience:

3-5 years post-Master's

2-3 years post-Ph.D.

Competencies: (skills, knowledge, abilities)

Analytical skills, Experience with Biological Data, Interpersonal skills, Results oriented

Deep knowledge of Genetics and Life Sciences, Experience with microarray data

Level of Autonomy and Complexity:

Applied understanding of basic principles, theories, concepts to resolve typical issues

Complies with standard practices and procedures to solve routine issues of limited scope

Impact restricted to processes related to assigned tasks; error or failure to achieve objectives have no significant impact on organization

Receives precise directions on tasks; work is intently supervised
