Requirements:
Business Analyst’s are a primary interface between projects and business partners. They are responsible for understanding current and future processes, and where applicable, including processes for the entire enterprise. They gather and document business needs and requirements, and assist with generating project business cases. Business Analysts work with Project Managers at project initiation to define costs and benefits of a proposed project prior to the project being reviewed for inclusion in the project portfolio. They participate in project team meetings.


Roles and Responsibilities:

Responsible for developing requirements and specifications that support the projects they are assigned to:

Develop Business Requirements that define what the business wants to do.

Develop Functional Requirements that describe what the system, process, or product/service must do in order to fulfill the business requirement(s).

Develop System Requirements where the business requirement can be broken up into sub-business requirements and many functional requirements.

Develop Other Requirements that cannot be met by a specific function. For example,
System inquiries cannot be longer than 30 seconds, a field length has to be at least 30 characters, or a screen can only be accessed by a certain role.

Develop Report Specifications that include requirements such as the purpose of the report, justification of the report, report attributes and columns, or runtime parameters

Provides expertise in the modeling/mapping of business processes, conduct as-is/to-be business processes, is instrumental in the business process re-engineering (BPR) and involved in the change management exercise.

Partner with members of the team to define costs and benefits of projects.

Analyze alignment of proposals to business strategies.

Write and present business cases.

Participate in the team to ensure project continues to align with project charter and business cases.

Partner with the project manager and the business community to ensure that project issues get resolved.

Perform research on potential new initiatives and assist with the analysis.

Develop test scenarios and test cases for use in system and integration testing.

Ability to manage small to medium scale projects.

Provide guidance to stakeholders on devising effective and efficient approaches to achieve the project objectives.

Produce high quality documentation.

Participates in or conducts end user training including development of user guides and reference materials.

Report status and issues to the Project Manager(s).

Familiar with Project Management methodology and SDLC.

Subject Matter Expert from a Business Unit preferred

Basic understanding or exposure to technical terminology.

Experience working in project teams preferred.

Skilled at developing and presenting presentations.

Knowledge of financial practices.

Ability to partner with the business community.

Ability to work with a high degree of independence.

Education:

College degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related work experience.
2 - 5 years of relevant general Information Technology experience required or experience in the Insurance Industry.
