CAD-CAM Programmer

Job Description
The primary purpose of the CAD/CAM Programmer position is to review drawings and create the CAM programs using AutoCAD, Solidworks, and Gibbs Cam. In addition, the CAD/CAM Programmer verifies machining programs match drawing interpretation and symbols, and supports Project Management by monitoring machining outcomes in the shop.

Essential Job Functions

Review Drawings / Assembly Drawings
Review drawings for components and sub-assemblies from Project Management and identify the number of pieces to be drawn.
Identify weld symbols, surface symbols, and quantities of components in order to create drawings.
Create individual components drawings in AutoCAD and Solidworks (CAD)
Draw dimensions in AutoCAD/Solidworks and verify dimensions by hand to match original blueprints.
Assign correct layer in AutoCAD to identify angled or beveled surfaces to match drawing symbols.
Verify drawings and beveled surfaces created in AutoCAD/Solidworks with Project Management prior to machining.
Create Burn Table program in Pronest (CAM)
Select correct drawing file from drawing library and identify quantities to be nested in the program.
Select the correct post-processor program to code which machine will be used.
Return the nesting report to Project Management for review prior to machining.
Return the nesting report to Scheduler to be written for laser/burn tables.
Create CNC machine program in Gibbs Cam (CAM)
Select correct drawing file from drawing library for component to be programmed.
Select tools, drills, endmill, reamers, and facemills that will shape the component.
Create the tool path to program machine movement.
Program machine speeds and feeds.
Select the correct post-processor program to code which machine will be used.
Return the machining report to Programming Supervisor to be written for CNC machines.
Monitor machining outcomes on the floor.
Verifying dimensions, nesting, and resolving material conflicts.
Re-issuing programs if necessary.
Reports to Service Center Manager, Manager Shared Services Division
Supports Product Line Managers, Corporate Procurement (Purchasing)
Occasionally interfaces with Production Supervisors

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

A minimum of an Associate’s degree (Engineering or Drafting) is required to perform the duties.
Advanced knowledge AutoCAD Mechanical (2011) including flat developments, intersections, and 3D drafting techniques.
Intermediate knowledge of Solidworks (2010)
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in drafting, print reading, and drawing interpretation required to perform the duties.
Knowledge of machining practices (CNC machines, burn table operation, CNC programming)
Preferred Qualifications

Advanced knowledge and certification in Solidworks (2010) or most recent version.
Experience in a welding or heavy fabrication environment preferred.
