Iowa-based United Fire Group recognizes its agents as one of the key components of our company and sells through more than 1,300 independent agencies. We are licensed in 43 states and represented by professional independent insurance agents writing personal and commercial property and casualty insurance, life insurance, annuities and surety bonds. JOB SUMMARY:
United Fire Group is seeking a Claims Supervisor to monitor and direct the adjustment of claims by internal staff and independent claim representatives handling claims in the states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. This supervisor is responsible for the Specialty Claim Team. Responsibilities include litigation, worker’s compensation, PIP and environmental claims. The candidate will be responsible for giving initial directions, coverage analysis, review of work product and general technical expertise as required based on the complexity of the claim, and the experience of the Claim Representative. Monitor and direct experts and attorneys as required based on the complexity of the loss and/or legal proceedings.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


Provide direction, control and guidance to claims staff in the investigation and conclusion of claims.

Analyze investigative material for liability exposure, coverage and damages to determine reserves and settlement values.

Negotiate directly with insureds, claimants or counsel in settling losses.

Assist set up unit in review of new claim reports and assigns to appropriate Claim
Representative with handling instructions.

Receive, evaluate and assign to counsel suits commenced against insureds or the company.

Provide guidance to counsel and coordinate any additional investigation required.

Maintain records of performance for Claims Representatives. Consult with Branch Claim

Manger on performance reviews and personally go through the review with each employee.

Maintain relations with underwriters, auditors, marketing and agents operating within the territory.

Regular attendance.

Perform other job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess general working knowledge of applicable law, policy coverage and damage evaluation procedures in a multi-line environment including third party litigation, worker’s compensation, PIP and environmental claims. Have the capacity and ability to deal directly with people under adverse conditions. Must understand and work with various personality traits and provide motivation and inspiration to those for whom responsible.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Seven plus years of claims experience required with at least three years of experience in a supervisory capacity. A four year degree and CPCU designation is preferred.
