Job Description
Drake Manufacturing Services is a leading global manufacturer of precision CNC machine tools based in Warren, Ohio. Due to our continued growth, we need to add a Controls and Systems Engineer to one of our Engineering Teams. We are a customer- focused, engineering-driven organization that develops some of the most advanced manufacturing systems available for a wide variety of demanding applications in the steering systems, power transmission, speed reducer, cutting tool, ball screw, linear motion, and aerospace industries.

The controls and systems engineer is responsible for planning, designing, programming, implementing, and documenting the electrical hardware and computer software necessary to operate machine tools. This position will also be responsible for developing the Operator’s Manuals, training operators and providing customer support.


Qualifications for Controls and Systems Engineer:
•A related Bachelor’s Degree (Electrical Engineering or Computer Science preferred)
•Solid experience in HMI development and computer programming (Visual Basic and C++); particularly machine controls, PLCs and CNCs
•The ability to manage projects to achieve on-time delivery, within budget
•Demonstrated proficiency with PCs, including word processing/spreadsheets; CAD experience helpful
•Capacity to be creative, innovative, investigative, quality conscious, and attentive to detail
•Possess strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills
•Must have a strong mathematical and mechanical aptitude
•Recognized for cooperation, concentration, & flexibility for performing a variety of tasks with team members
•Be self-motivated and multi-task oriented, with a strong work ethic and the ability to work effectively in a self-directed, self-inspected environment
•Possess a valid driver’s license and insurability to drive company or rental vehicles

Responsibilities for Controls and Systems Engineer:
•Review customer requirements, Drake Manufacturing Service (DMS) quotations and customer purchase orders
•Write and update software necessary for machine operation using CNC application languages , including menu systems, macros, machine interface, and ladder logic
•Design screen layout for operator interface
•Test programs to ensure accuracy and de-bug software as required
•Develop and optimize grinding and machining processes for projects, including specific parameters and customizations
•Start up machine on plant floor and test/de-bug as required
•Train customer operators both in plant and at customer site
•Represent Drake as a liaison with customers and provide troubleshooting as required
