Position Summary
Det Norske Veritas (DNV) is a global provider of services for managing risk. An independent foundation with the objective of safeguarding life, property and the environment, DNV comprises 300 offices in 100 countries, with about 9,000 employees.

DNV is seeking one or more corrosion engineers with at least 5 years of experience for our Facility and Pipeline Services Section, located in Dublin Ohio. New corrosion engineers work with experienced engineers on consulting projects and develop the skills needed to manage engineering tasks and projects. Applicant will multitask in a fast paced environment with limited supervision. Mentoring is provided to help engineers quickly learn and master new skills. Successful applicant will become part of a facility and pipeline integrity team. The candidate must be highly organized and capable of utilizing Microsoft Office software programs. Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical and problem solving skills are essential for this position.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities

Successful applicant will assist experienced engineers with project execution. Applicant will initially work with project managers and will follow existing analysis procedures, working with pipeline and facility inspection data in spreadsheet format. As experience is gained, applicant will become familiar with pipeline technologies such as, but not be limited to:

Pipeline and facility external corrosion control,

Facilities and pipelines cathodic protection design,

External corrosion field surveys, cathodic protection monitoring and troubleshooting,

Pipeline Coatings, and pipeline coating inspection,

Pipeline HVAC induced interference,

In-line inspection hardware and software,

Data collection, management, alignment, and integration

Degradation mechanisms and their control

Repair technologies,

Risk management.

This position will require interactions with clients and prospective clients as well as proposal and report writing. Within a relatively short period (~1 to 2 years), applicant will conduct tasks without supervision as part of a larger projects. Eventually, applicant will conduct and/or manage larger projects, developing expertise in one or more technical areas related to pipeline integrity.

Interaction with other departments locally and globally is expected when needed. DNV has a number of national and international subject matter experts whose input is valuable on projects. Applicant is expected to develop strong relationships with subject matter experts locally and around the world.

Programming macros is occasionally required. We maintain a number of proprietary software programs and tools that require updating. Knowledge of Excel Visual Basic is beneficial to the qualified applicant.

Job Requirements

BS or higher in mechanical, electrical, chemical, materials, or a related engineering field.

Experience in corrosion control, protective coatings and cathodic protection monitoring is preferred.

NACE Cathodic Protection Level 2 Certification.

Ability to handle field survey equipment, troubleshooting, good writing and record keeping skills are required.

Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, is required.

Must be self-motivated, and be able to work independently.

Experience with non-destructive testing is a plus.

Ability to work in a safety oriented and high stress outdoor environment required.

Strong English speaking and writing skills are required

Willingness to travel. Travel assignments can be from several days (attend meetings, conferences) to several weeks (work at client’s work site). Longer-term travel (e.g., assignments in other countries) is available to qualified candidates


Knowledge/Skill:
Position requires excellent technical skills in one or more of the following areas: cathodic protection design, external corrosion pipeline surveys, materials engineering (familiarity with carbon steels is a plus), nondestructive testing, or a related area. Good writing skills. Experience or familiarity with transmission pipelines or pressure vessel technologies is a plus.
