Description: The Laurel, Maryland office of Greenhorne & O'Mara, Inc. has an opportunity for a Senior-Level position in the Coatings / Corrosion Engineering Department. The Corrosion Engineering Director will lead business growth in existing and new markets, building relationships with clients across three major G&O Sectors, working with market leaders and Division Managers in water systems, transportation, infrastructure, energy, and Federal services. The position offers the opportunity to expand an already highly profitable and growing Coatings / Corrosion Engineering Services business which represents a significant component of the overall corporation.

The ideal candidate must have these basic qualifications/requirements:

Bachelor of Science degree or higher degree in Electrical, Corrosion, Metallurgical, Civil,
Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field

Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the corrosion consulting industry as an advanced cathodic protection professional experienced in corrosion control and cathodic protection monitoring

Higher level related industry certifications, such as NACE Cathodic Protection Specialist and Senior Corrosion Technologist

Minimum of five (5) years of experience in successful marketing and business development
Experience in managing all phases of corrosion control and implementation -- including, experience in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, inspection and design of cathodic protection systems -- and advanced understanding of cathodic protection principles

Proven track record in new market development and leading the growth and expansion of an existing business / consulting practice, particularly in corrosion industry sales, client relations, and preparing winning proposals

Experience in the Eastern U.S. geographic market

Experience in corrosion evaluation, corrosion mitigation, and cathodic protection of bridges, piers, rail facilities, and atmospherically exposed reinforced concrete structures, water / wastewater treatment facilities, etc.

Experience in the design and evaluation of corrosion control systems for water / wastewater plants, pipelines, cathodic protection, material selection, coatings and linings, and failure analysis

Strong troubleshooting skills and experience recognizing and resolving major problems within a cathodic protection system

Experience performing analysis with SEM (scanning electron microscope), EDS (energy dispersive spectroscopy), FTIR, and other related techniques

Preferred skills that will assist the candidate in succeeding are:

Past experience in protective coatings

Professional Engineer Registration (P.E.)

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Highly organized and capable of utilizing Microsoft Office software programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to work within a team environment

Active participation in professional societies associated with the corrosion engineering services business

Willingness and ability to travel (approximately 15 to 20%)

Job Responsibilities:

Directing client development, marketing, business development, technical proposal writing and presentations across all G&O geographic regions

Coordinating the Coatings/Corrosion Engineering Department’s marketing and business development activities with the Transportation, Energy, Infrastructure Design, Federal, and
Water & Environment Market Leaders, Division Managers, and other G&O market sectors, including Corporate Marketing and Sales

Carrying out project management, field inspection and testing, failure analysis, preparation of reports, design of corrosion monitoring and control systems, and financial management
Supervising, scheduling, and performing duties involved with assessment, testing, evaluation, design, and installation of corrosion monitoring and cathodic protection systems

Evaluating corrosion on various structures and working with clients to assess and achieve objectives related to customer projects, needs, and specifications

Evaluation of existing facilities, including pipelines, bridges, marine structures, transit facilities, fuel storage, power generation and other transportation facilities

Design of corrosion monitoring and control systems for pipelines, tanks, exposed structures, bridges, marine facilities, and plant facilities including coatings, linings, and cathodic protection

Assess, evaluate, prevent, and control destructive effects of corrosion affecting industries and manufacturing areas

Preparing cost estimates, sketches, plans, and specifications

Ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations and codes
