Job Description
Description The corrosion technician is responsible for Terminal and field executed corrosion prevention duties including, impressed cathodic protection, internal corrosion control and atmospheric corrosion control. This role will also be responsible for protective coating and linings, materials selection and design/project support.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Working well with local Operations and Maintenance groups and other Corrosion Prevention/Pipeline Integrity personnel and management.

• Responsible for annual cathodic protection surveys, bi-monthly rectifier and critical bond inspections and maintaining the appropriate records/documentation.

• Design, installation and maintaining corrosion control systems.

• Directing and inspecting new cathodic protection system installations.

• Troubleshooting, analysis and repair of areas with pipe to soil potentials that do not meet established criteria.

• Developing and maintaining records for all surveys, tests, work progress reports or other corrosion related documentation. Actively support all corrosion control related activities associated with maintenance and new construction projects.

• Assist with the preparation of job plans, negotiating contracts, budgeting and forecasting costs associated with corrosion control activities.

• Conducting close interval surveys to detect deficiencies and correcting identified interference issues.

Requirements REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.

• Five years of corrosion control related experience is preferred.

• NACE Corrosion Technician certification is required.

• Strong initiative and excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, changing environment with strong analytical and time management skills.

• Competent knowledge of corrosion control with in depth understanding of corrosion mechanisms and mitigation techniques.

• Computer skills including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.), corrosion database software and associated field computers.

• Electrical knowledge including AC, DC and electrochemical theory.

• Knowledge of pipeline operations and the characteristics of products transported by pipeline.

• Ability to proficiently utilize corrosion related testing equipment including, but not limited to multi-meters, reference electrodes, current interrupters, pipe and cable locators, chart recorders and data loggers.

• Must demonstrate a commitment to understanding and complying with all Federal, State, Local and Company regulations, policies, guidelines and procedures.

• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, to include holidays and weekends when required.

• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record is required.

• Able to assume responsibility, work with little or no supervision, be flexible, perform duties and handle multiple tasks under potentially stressful conditions.

• Self-motivated individual able to work independently or in a team environment and willing to learn.

• Must have a history of being dependable and reliable, take pride in a job well done, and enjoy working hard.

• Possess a strong commitment to personal and job safety.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Normal concentration/intensity, which includes prolonged mental effort.

• Normal memory, taking into consideration the amount and type of information.

• Normal complexity of decision making.

• Above average physical mobility to enable access to elevated height areas via stairs or ladders, as well as movement from place to place on the job, taking distance and speed into account.

• Strenuous physical activity – Pushing/Pulling and lifting requirements of up to 50 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Must be able to work out of doors in extreme weather and perform heavy physical labor in a safe manner.

• Work indoors and outdoors in and around industrial and electrical equipment.

• Work in temperature extremes due to weather conditions and operating equipment.
