We are currently seeking a Department Manager for our Flex Cast Department (Continuous Casting Operation) located at our Canton, Ohio Steelmaking facility. This position is responsible for directing daily operations of the Refining/Casting area to satisfy Bar Mill and trade customer delivery, directing salaried and hourly personnel to assure total customer satisfaction, and satisfying corporate targets for productivity, manufacturing cost, environmental regulations and safety standards.

Job Responsibilities include:


Directing and managing staff: overseeing the selection, hiring, training and coaching of employees. Managing performance. Maintaining positive employee relations.

Administering the Basic Labor Agreement.

Directing process and product functions, providing quality manufacturing processes and
assuring customer specifications are met.

Meeting and/or visiting customers.

Assuring safety of all operations: overseeing the development and implementation of safety policies and procedures.

Developing and managing budgets; monitoring and controlling performance to meet or exceed budget.

Directing problem solving sessions: finding solutions to daily operating and quality problems.

Identifying capital needs and projects.

Reviewing customer inquiries; performing advanced Quality Planning (A.P.Q.P.)

Developing and implementing business plans.

Approving and overseeing the management of continuous improvement initiatives.

Overseeing the development and management of quality systems. Working closely with corporate metallurgist to address CPARS.

Assuring conformance to all departmental environmental regulations.

Maintaining state of the art knowledge in the field; representing Company to professional organizations. Serving as a technical advisor to the Company.

Serving as a member of the Canton Leadership Team, participating in the development of plant strategy, objectives, etc.

Facilitating planning and scheduling process for production.

Assuring compliance with all company policies.

Supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Requirements

BS Degree in Materials Science, Business, Engineering or related field of study.

7-10 years experience in production / operations management in heavy manufacturing.

Broad general business know-how (finance, planning, etc.), typically acquired through an MBA.

Demonstrated in-depth managerial and leadership skills (individual and team).

Written and oral communication skills, including strong listening skills.

State-of-art knowledge of steelmaking technologies.

Broad understanding of all plant production processes.

In-depth interpersonal skills; must deal effectively with personnel at all organizational levels. Demonstrated integrity and trust.

Computer skills: data administration and analysis; Word, Excel and internal systems.

Demonstrated resilience and creativity; very demanding position, requires a high energy level.

In-depth knowledge of OSHA, NRC and EPA regulations, QS9000, TS14001 and TS16949.

In-depth knowledge of quality management systems.

Demonstrated maintenance and mechanical skills.

Demonstrated organizational and multi-tasking skills.

Demonstrated analytical and decision making skills.
