Hubbell Lighting, headquartered in Greenville, SC, is a core business platform of Hubbell Incorporated. The platform supplies a comprehensive range of indoor and outdoor lighting products to industrial, commercial and institutional applications and is the largest manufacturer of residential lighting fixtures in North America.

Position Overview:
The Design Engineer works closely with the Engineering Manager and the other members of the Product Development staff to develop new and existing products for the sports and industrial lighting markets/brands. As a member of the Product Development department, the Design Engineer is involved in the entire product development process, including ideation, concept design, design development, prototyping and documentation. The product development responsibilities of the Design Engineer include cost, material and manufacturing process analysis and the identification and evaluation of alternatives, design for UL/CUL/CSA and other regulatory compliance, tooling development and release and production release.

Responsibilities include:
Participate in product and/or market research and analysis to inform the development process.
Works in partnership with the Engineering Manager and other personnel as required to pro-actively identify, develop, present and implement product development programs for the brand.
Primary responsibility for the successful execution of each product development project to which he/she is assigned.
Directs the other members of the Development Team as required to execute the project according to the development schedule.
Works with the Engineering Manager to prepare, submit and maintain project plans and schedules and submits project reports as required.
Develops component and material performance specifications, conducts reviews and evaluates performance tests of designed components, assemblies, materials or processes to assure that completed work meets specifications.
Coordinates the production of models, mock-ups and prototypes to inform the development process, establish feasibility of the device or system, etc.
Develops cost estimates as required throughout the design process and identifies and evaluates cost-saving alternatives to guide the development of the product.
Interfaces with existing and potential vendors regarding tooling and part-costs related to projects and to maintain an awareness of lighting technologies that may be applied to current and future projects.
Develops final design and engineering documentation for release to manufacturing, including drawings, specifications and cost estimates.
The development of new and improved lighting products requires constant market awareness. The Design Engineer maintains an up-to-date understanding of the market and its technology by interfacing closely with lamp, ballast and control manufacturers, and through contact with sales personnel, customers and others in the company.
Participates in and/or facilitates design, concept, and prototype reviews.

Qualifications:
An in-depth understanding of the capabilities and limitations of aluminum spinning, sheet metal fabrication, aluminum anodizing, aluminum die casting, Computer Numeric Control (CNC) punching and forming, aluminum and acrylic extruding and plastic injection molding materials and manufacturing methods preferred.
Knowledge and experience in design development is required. The Design Engineer must have the ability to develop innovative solutions to design challenges.
BS in Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering. Emphasis on lighting preferred, but not required.
3 (+) years of product engineering experience minimum. Lighting fixture experience preferred.
Knowledge and experience with professional design & engineering software systems required. Solid Edge experience strongly preferred.
Optical design experience a plus.
Knowledge of UL/CUL/CSA standards preferred.
Solid working knowledge of, experience with and proficiency in Windows-based computer systems and office software is required. MS Project skills required. MS PowerPoint skills desired.
