Dimensional Engineer

Job Description
Orchid Orthopedic Solutions, a worldwide leader in the contact design and manufacture of implants, instruments and innovative technologies for the orthopedic, dental and cardiovascular markets, is looking for a Dimensional Engineer for its Oregon Operation.


Responsibilities

The successful candidate performs diversified duties to assess conformance of our product and processes to customer dimensional requirements and to support Manufacturing and Quality Engineers in the fulfillment of validation requirements for new and legacy product lines in accordance with established policies, practices and procedures.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Develop Product Dimensional Plans with Mfg Engineers to support NPDI and ECN processes

Perform dimensional validations for new products in casting and finishing.

Write and maintain CMM inspection programs for accuracy, problem solving and economy.

Maintain databases of CMM and process dimensions to confirm shrink factors and controls.

Perform and direct the use of metrology to assess dimensional capability to print requirements

Complete and disposition FAIR, RMR and Validation Brochures to support product acceptance.

Approve new tool construction and validate tool rework and design fixturing to inspect products

Write DER’s and meet casting print dimensions with planned or no rework.

Write procedures for layout and dimensional areas to support training and production

Perform gauge R and R’s to achieve and demonstrate correlation with customer inspections.

Support continuous improvement and EHS initiatives

Perform other related duties as directed or assigned.



Core Competencies

Broad knowledge of manufacturing operations and engineering concepts, lean manufacturing principles and tools.

Ability to interpret drawings and apply inspections to assess GD&T callouts.

Strong aptitude in analytical thinking; scientific process and problem solving.

Proficiency in CAD preferred

Ability to operate and program CMM equipment, Robots, CNC equipment.

Proficiency with MS programs (ex. word, excel, project, access (desired) and visio (desired))

Strong organizational skills.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.



Experience/Education

5 years experience using GD&T and inspection in a medical or manufacturing industry.

Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering or related field

Formal Lean/Six Sigma Green and/or Black Belt training preferred

CAD (Solidworks preferred)

GD&T (ANSI Y14.5 certified training or experience)

ASME Certification desirable.
