Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsible for executing GEIM’s external research strategy in GI / Urology
2. Identify new technology platforms and products to enhance Ferring’s R&D pipeline and build differentiated product offerings
3. Drive growth of external biotherapeutics assets in GI / Urology
4. Represent GEIM on GI / Urology Therapeutic Teams (TT) to deliver on TT targets
5. Work cross-functionally, build strong and effective working relationships across Ferring (FRI, FPI, FICSA, BD, legal, marketing, finance)
6. Work externally with scientific leaders, KOL, Principal Investigators and CSO of early to mid-stage companies to evaluate their portfolio for co-development and partnerships
7. Initiate partner discussions / negotiations and lead scientific due diligence of pre-clinical to late-stage assets, assessing strategic fit and developability.
8. Accountable for the development of a comprehensive and timely due diligence package to include a full assessment (scientific evaluation, regulatory, CMC, manufacturing, clinical development, financial, reimbursement issues, competitive landscape) of external opportunities, and make recommendations for approval
9. Alliance Management: Act as key point of contact with partners, drive product development / integration of partner’s capability within Ferring, and ensure partner achieves agreed upon milestones
10. Responsible for on-time project completion within the approved budget and for providing frequent updates on progress towards objectives and achievement of milestones of partner-led projects to ensure timely delivery, highlighting any issues that might adversely impact overall business plans / timelines
11. Set metric, goals, external database, standard templates and criteria for initiation and development of external partnerships in GI / Urology
12. Create a presence in key scientific and partnering conferences and in collaboration with BD to develop a Partnering message to increase Ferring’s profile
13. Work with tech transfer offices/ professors in leading universities globally (US, EU, China) to set up strategic alliances in immunotherapy

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

· PhD in immunology, immunotherapy, biotechnology or related discipline
· Scientific and technical expertise in immunotherapy products / platforms (including diagnostics). Expertise in GI/Urology strongly preferred.
· Working knowledge in rare diseases, reproductive health, biomarkers and diagnostics is strongly desired
· Minimum 10 years of experience in scientific licensing in large pharma / biotech with focus on external research and innovations in biotherapeutics from discovery to commercialisation
· In-depth understanding of the drug development process, cell therapies, biologics, and peptide platforms
· Working knowledge of FDA, Ex-US regulatory agencies, CMC, and biomanufacturing of immunotherapy and cell therapies products (CMO)
· Broad experience with innovations, new technology platforms, and IP
· Well-developed external network including VC, academia and industry
· Strong Alliance Management and Operations skills with a successful proven track record and significant exposure leading biotherapeutics-based deals
· Demonstrated experience in planning, prioritising, implementation and analysis of externally driven research programmes
· Strong communication skills, written and verbal, and ability to communicate the science to Ferring’s management and with partners.

SPECIAL NOTES:

· The position is not a business development role. However, it requires a well-developed business acumen (CDA, MTA, market analysis, familiarity with NPV, financial analysis) with strong project management skills
· Comfortable with ambiguity, embracing change
· Focus will be on industry / academia partnership from a scientific perspective to support GI Therapeutic Area (TA) globally
· Management of complex projects, with a multi-disciplinary, cross-functional, and cultural dimension.
