Electro-Mechanical Technician

Job Description
Richelieu Foods, Beaver Dam facility is seeking experienced individuals to fill the role of Electro/Mechanical Technician (Allen Bradley PLC) on Second and Third Shift. Weekend work may be required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

•Observes mechanical devices in operation to locate causes of trouble.
•Fabricate, disassemble and assemble production equipment to gain access to and remove defective parts
•Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
•Repairs or replaces defective parts.
•Lubricates and cleans parts.
•Initiates purchase order for parts and machines and creates and documents hours worked on applicable work orders.
•Performs preventative maintenance on all equipment and troubleshoot/repair processing, filling and packaging production equipment.
•Weld, perform sheet metal work and employ basic shop floor skills (lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools).
•Install, move, and relocate machinery/equipment according to blueprints and other drawings.
•Read and interpret blueprints and equipment manuals.
•Performs other duties as assigned by the Lead or Supervisor.

Education, Experience and Abilities:

•Minimum of three to five years experience in an industrial maintenance role desired.
•An Associate degree in Electro/Mechanical technology or a related field is preferred.
•Background in Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Basic Electrical Controls (120v and 24v), 3 Phase Power
•Prior practice in correct wiring techniques with 3 phase motors, starters, and overloads
•Knowledge of troubleshooting bearings, belts, sheaves, sprockets, chains, and gear reducers and proper alignment of these drive devices
•Experience in inspection of all included above and the ability to make recommendations on the proper level of replacement and inspection
•Ability to connect with a laptop and troubleshoot a programmable logic controller (PLC) program and program a variable frequency drive (VFD)
•Knowledge of the proper application and interaction with vision systems or contrast devices
•Ability to write and apply PLC programs and document and revise hard copy and electronic documentation of the programs they have created or changed
•Knowledge of pressure sensors, flow meters, temperature sensors, and reading and assimilating any technical documentation to assist in the use or repair of any control device
•Ability to make recommendations on spare parts, lock-out tag-out, guarding, and the level of operator involvement for proper machine integrity
•Knowledge of robotics and the associated controls would be a plus
•Previous experience in the food industry and knowledge of GMP’s and SQF audits would be valuable


The proper candidate must have enough of their own hand tools to perform necessary work.


Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before employees of organization.

Mathmatical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
