Job Summary:
The Engineer II reports to the Engineering Manager and is responsible to the Sr. Mechanical/Lead engineer for project related mechanical engineering and design tasks under limited supervision.
The work involves power plant detailed engineering and design activities with particular emphasis on gas turbine based combined cycle plants, gas turbine simple cycle plants as well as cogeneration plant designs.
Work with project mechanical, electrical, civil and structural engineers as well as mechanical and electrical designers in a fast paced project team environment to affect well coordinated power plant designs.
Work in the field on a plant site under construction as engineering interface between joint venture (JV) construction partner and home office engineering team to help resolve any engineering/construction coordination issues.
Required Major Duties, Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
Under limited supervision assist in the preparation of plant major equipment specifications as well as plant construction specifications. Candidate must have a working knowledge of power plant equipment design requirements (Including gas turbines, steam turbines, heat recovery steam generators, feedwater pumps, vertical pumps, fuel gas compressors, water treatment equipment, air compressors, fire pump systems, etc.)
Review and technical analysis of equipment vendor competitive proposals
Assist in the preparation of plant piping and instrument diagrams
Prepare mechanical system control narratives to identify the control concepts necessary for system function
Assist in the preparation of piping line lists, valve lists, and instrument lists
Preparation of mechanical equipment and system piping sizing calculations
Ability to develop a working knowledge of plant heat balance calculations and proficient with heat balance calculation software including Thermoflow GTPRO and GTMASTER
Proficient at Microsoft WORD and Excel spreadsheet programs
Interfacing with construction contractors for prompt responses to field questions and changes to engineering design



Job Requirements


Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Professional Engineer (PE) certification is preferred but not mandatory. Candidate would be required to obtain the necessary PE license within 2 years. Minimum 3+ years of detailed power plant design or equivalent experience
