Job Description
John Morrell & Co, a member of the John Morrell Food Group, has a Engineering Manager position available in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Position Summary:
The Engineering Manager reports to the Director Engineering and is responsible for managing all engineering and maintenance functions for the John Morrell plants to meet company objectives and to provide techniques and policy guidance to plant engineers, staff engineers, and management.
Position Responsibilities:
Provide plant and corporate management with information on all aspects of plant engineering, construction, and maintenance matters. Investigate and report on problems and recommend solutions.
Be involved in the implementation of overall engineering plans and programs for the
Company.
Serve as a central point of contact for the general development, approval, and execution of capital requests and all the projects they lead to.
Serve as the central point of contract for the Corporate Engineering office including programs such as; SMART Plan, RFP Process, etc.
Provide direction to ensure that training and education programs are implemented to increase engineering staff skills and to meet technological change requirements of the engineering function.
Evaluate department plant engineering and maintenance costs and recommend cost reduction programs as appropriate.
Audit and review the quality of plant engineering programs; make recommendations as appropriate.
Maintain technical and operational knowledge of facility environmental compliance and coordinate with corporate in maintaining compliance with Federal, State, and local requirements regarding hazardous materials, community right-to-know concerns, process emissions, effluents, and solid wastes management.
Maintain and support prescribed programs of employee relations, health and safety, training and development, compensation and benefits for all engineering personnel in the
department.
Stay abreast of engineering trends and developments for application in department.
Recommend changes in policies and procedures as appropriate.
Delegate responsibilities as needed to ensure required results.
Required Skills
Qualifications/ Education/Experience/Skills:
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 10 to 15 years of engineering/maintenance management experience.
Previous processed meat manufacturing experience required; cut and rendering a plus.
Previous experiences with processing plant expansions, construction and contractor interfacing.
Ammonia refrigeration experience including regulatory components required.
High level understanding of electrical and electronic systems.
Ability to troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis associated with plant operations.
Working skills of computers having the ability to use several different types of programs relative to design and department record keeping.
Ability to read, understand and calculate blue print dimensions.
Working knowledge of SAP a plus.
