Medical Sciences Contracts Attorney
Job Description
Life Technologies has an exciting opportunity for a Contracts Attorney with experience in regulatory and healthcare compliance matters to support its Medical Sciences business, a business division of Life Technologies that provides medical device and lab developed test service solutions to the healthcare industry. This position is located in Carlsbad, CA, the Company’s headquarters.
This person in this position will work directly with the executive leadership in the Medical Sciences business to negotiate and draft contracts, implement and monitor compliance programs, provide strategic counsel on legal and FDA regulatory matters and undertake such other general business activities as appropriate.
This person will work with the Lead Counsel of Medical Sciences and others in the Legal Department to provide guidance to the business in a range of substantive legal areas, including corporate, commercial, regulatory and healthcare compliance laws. The role is a pivotal role that requires someone who will have the ability to forge relationships, influence, facilitate, act with autonomy, and interact with top management on visible and critical issues.
Essential Functions:
Contracts Counsel: Negotiate, draft and provide strategic legal counsel on commercial contracts and transactions, including: collaborations, supply and distribution arrangements; joint ventures; research and development; co-marketing; and licensing.
Compliance Counsel: Provide counsel concerning compliance (in conjunction with Regulatory Affairs) with laws and regulations, including Food and Drug Administration (FDA); federal and state Healthcare Compliance laws and regulations, including fraud and abuse, False Claims Act, Sunshine Act and HIPAA. Experience drafting agreements and internal compliance policies that navigate FDA and Healthcare Compliance laws and regulations.
Requirements:
J.D. degree from ABA-accredited law school and member in good standing of state bar required. Experience in contracts negotiation/ drafting and general corporate law required. Experience working within healthcare industry where legal counsel was subject to FDA regulatory and healthcare compliance laws (law firm or in-house experience preferred).
At least 5 years legal experience.
