Job Description
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for troubleshooting and correcting MTS customers machine tool and equipment problems. These services will include, but not be limited to: Controllers, servo/spindle drives, electrical and mechanical components. Field Service Engineer will be involved in the service, decommission, installation and runoff of machine tools and motion systems in our customer's plant. On occasion, the Field Service Engineer will be assigned to projects in MTS facility. Service Engineers work on Flex Time due to the frequent overnight travel as well as being on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work with the Service Supervisor to provide the best resolution to our customer's machine tool and equipment problems.

Use troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve machine tool mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, control and application problems.

Provide the tools necessary to perform all duties associated with this position, per company tool list.

Perform machine installation, troubleshooting and service in the field.

Perform research & development of electrical/mechanical components required to correct a customer's machine tool or production equipment problem.

Provide customer witness and training on assigned projects.

Perform laser and ball bar calibrations and generate associated charts, graphs & documentation.

Size fuses and wiring in accordance with NEC, NFPA 79 & MTSU electrical specifications.

Layout, build and wire electrical panels, utilizing components specified on the MTS electrical inventory list.

Wire the machine or motion system complete by following the standards/procedures for the electrical group. Keep accurate records of any in process wiring changes.

Change and/or modify PMC or PLC ladder logic to correct a problem or remedy a machine malfunction.

Work with the Systems Integrator to provide electrical input/output assignments.

Help organize and schedule the complete service project, working with other team members as required to meet customer's expectations and scheduling objectives.

Work with the Systems Integrator to start up and troubleshoot the machine tool controls and drives. Debug and correct any wiring errors found during the start up.

Perform mechanical analysis and repair to a variety of components, including but not limited to; ball screws, spindles, tool changers, pallet shuttles and rotary tables.

Perform geometrical optimizations on milling machines, lathes, boring mills and grinders. Ability to precision level the machine is essential.

Provide job skills training for members as requested.

Write simple part programs for machine testing and inspection.

Load control parameters and help set up the control system as required.

Assist with generating wiring diagrams as requested.

Responsible for compiling and packaging of electrical documentation for your assigned project.

Must be proficient in the operation of the Renishaw interferometer laser and ball bar calibration equipment.

Follow published Field Service Guidelines.

Follow published Purchasing Guidelines.

Follow published guidelines for service and care of the MTS assigned service vehicle.

Work with everyone involved to propose and implement cost reduction and control methods.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field (additional experience may be substituted for education)

EXPERIENCE:

2-5 years relevant experience. Must have understanding of mechanical and electrical principles
