Procter & Gamble is creating a stand-alone, publically traded, coffee company called the Folgers Coffee Company via a split-off or spin-off transaction occurring sometime between July and December 2008. The new company will be headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio with manufacturing sites located in Kansas City, Missouri, New Orleans, Louisiana, and Sherman, Texas.. . Folgers is the leading retail coffee brand in North America. The business operates with attractive operating margins and is a strong cash generator. Current brands included in the Folgers Coffee Company portfolio include: Folgers, Millstone, Brothers, Dunkin Donuts, Maryland Club/Butternut, Tender Leaf Tea, and Venetos. These brands had total sales of approximately $1.6 billion and operating income of about $350 million in 2007. Folgers is the retail coffee market leader (40+ share) in the US and is poised to build on that leadership. In addition to mainstream market leadership, the Folgers Coffee Company manufactures the fastest growing gourmet brand and has a multi-year portfolio of product, package, and commercial innovation to drive future growth. As a standalone company coffee sales and marketing focus will improve, versus being a small part of a large consumer goods company, accelerating company growth. . . The position described below is part of the Folgers Coffee Company. If you are hired into this role, your employment will start or transition into the Folgers Company at the close of the separation. . . Job Description: . . New Orleans Plant multi-disciplined engineer – Process Engineering Focus. This position is essential to insure company growth while sustaining current operations, delivering improvements and building site capability. Engineering will be split between the manufacturing sites and a central organization, with execution & manufacturing technical support being owned by the sites and innovation being delivered in collaboration with the sites and Research & Development. . The New Orleans site is the largest coffee plant in the world. Multi-skilled engineering capability is essential to support the variety of initiatives, savings & replacement projects & plant technical needs. Although process focused, the person filling this position needs to use project management, mechanical, Controls, Health Safety & Environmental and manufacturing skills. As such, the individual in this role will have the opportunity to grow in responsibility & capability.. . The New Orleans site contains making technologies as diverse as roasting, blending, grinding, dry materials transport, instant extraction & spray drying, bean drying to support canister packing, flexible film packing and jar packing. The individual in this role must develop & maintain expertise in these making technologies to complete and /or manage initiatives plus have the flexibility to flow to work in the packing technologies.. . . Important Responsibilities of the Role Include: . Lead the options analysis for project scope or process changes, working with Central Engineering and the multifunctional technical teams (PD, Manufacturing, other engineering functions - C&IS, facilities, packing) . Identify, develop and execute savings ideas in each of the making areas, including developing the funding request, managing the capital & engineering execution through start-up. . Plan, Execute, Analyze and summarize Experimental Orders when required . Interact with vendors and perform equipment testing as required . Complete all relevant Engineering Work Process deliverables for project definition, execution & start-up . Participate in and/or lead Improvement teams to provide targeted improvements to the facilities . Develop others, Technicians, Managers, Engineers. Qualifications. The Qualifications for the Role Include:. Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering is desired, those with other degrees and related experience will be considered. . Proven technical mastery in process engineering, preferably with dry material handling experience. Mastery of basic engineering principles (mass & heat transfer, mass & energy balances, fluid flow). . Collaboration with Product Development in product and process development. You will be required to leverage your process mastery to develop collaborative solutions for new processes, products and formulas at affordable economics from the 1st case forward. . Ability to work across functional and discipline boundaries in a rapidly changing environment. . Demonstrated experience utilizing the Engineering Work Process (EWP), through each phase. . Think and Act Decisively - Ability to gather and validate data independently, evaluate, analyze, synthesize the data to determine optimal solutions and lead team(s) of construction, operations and technical engineers in execution. The ability to lead with consensus decision making will be vitally important. . Collaboration - Identify capability gaps, develop individuals and teams to meet immediate and future needs. Create collaborative partnerships with internal and external suppliers and customers. Define and communicate business needs and deliver results. Demonstrated experience coaching & growing capability in other engineers (contract and Folgers). . Project management experience would be highly valued for this role, as the individual will manage costs, schedules and resources for the work. . Operates with Discipline - Demonstrated high level of discipline priority setting, and follow through to meet commitments. Demonstrated ability to reinforce expectations and lead others to embrace the use of standardized work process and tools to successfully deliver initiatives. . Experience working in a plant would be very beneficial, experience in coffee manufacturing or product development is desired.. Other Information: . . You can be a part of the rebirth of the city of New Orleans.. This role is based in New Orleans, LA with minor travel to Cincinnati and other Folgers Coffee Company manufacturing sites. Approximately 5% travel required, primarily within US. There will be occasional international travel to suppliers.. .
