Job Description | Summary
This person in this position will work on a variety of consulting projects involving traditional geotechnical engineering designs such as shallow and deep foundations, slope stability, seepage, bearing capacity, settlement, pavements, deep foundations, retaining walls, dams, and blasting. The position also includes performing geotechnical computer modeling, specifying, implementing and interpreting soil and rock investigations including drilling, cone penetrometer and in-situ testing, instrumentation installation and monitoring, and overseeing on-site and laboratory testing. The position involves field work such as construction observation, surveying, and facility inspections. Projects focus on geotechnical and civil engineering design and analysis and include the preparation of plans and specifications (including CADD work), writing reports, and cost estimating. The position will include assisting in project management for scope, schedule and budget compliance and will require interfacing and collaborating on these projects with engineers in other Barr offices. This position will require limited, out-of-town work assignments to meet the needs of our clients.
NOTE: Some work locations will feature remote and/or rough terrain typical of construction sites or undeveloped land. Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on these sites.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a geotechnical emphasis.
3 to 5 years of relevant work experience with traditional geotechnical engineering.
Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs.
Willingness to travel as required for projects.
Computer skills including CADD, modeling software (such as FLAC, Plaxis, and/or GEO Slope), word processing and spreadsheets.
Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
Acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
6+ years of similar experience.
Graduate degree in geotechnical engineering.
Proven project or task management skills.
Experience scoping, contracting, executing, and managing advanced geotechnical field investigations and laboratory testing.
Experience with project scheduling software (MS Project or Primavera).
Strong technical skills in a wide range of geotechnical analysis and design.
Experience with vibration monitoring, assessments, and precondition surveys. |
