Job Description
With 4300 employees worldwide, AVL is the world's largest privately owned company for development of powertrains (combustion engines, hybrid systems, electric drive) as well as simulation and test systems for passenger cars, trucks and marine engines. AVL North America has around 450 employees and 3 locations in Michigan: Plymouth – Headquarters, Ann Arbor and Bloomfield.

General Description: Coordination of the complete marketing and development of specific product line.

Your Responsibilities:

Responsibility / Authority:

Responsible for definition and specification (functionality, price) of components and products within the framework of the business unit/segment strategy and the development budgets, which meet the needs of the SBU-wide requirements (specifications, prices) of the marketplace and the future changes.

Business Development Tasks:

Understanding and documentation of market requirements, available market, competitive landscape, and projections of sales for existing, improved, and new products.

Definition of the marketing-oriented product structure for all markets (product configurations, options policies).

Definition of the logistical product structure with the goal of keeping the inventories low but still keeping the processing time short.

Product Development Tasks:

Owner of the entire product life cycle.

Transformation of the worldwide market requirements as defined by the local product managers and technical sales supporters into consolidated product definitions / specifications (see the Product Innovation Process PIP). Coordination of these product definitions / specifications with the local product managers and technical sales supporters.

Setting target manufacturing costs.

Recommendation for an enlargement of the scope for products and services in cooperation / agreement with the local product managers.

Analysis of the competition in cooperation with the ""local"" product managers.

Coordination of development which is concentrated at one location or distributed over several locations. In the latter case in cooperation with the local product manager.

Corporate Design of products (coordinated with the person holding CD responsibility in the SBU).

Planning the technical and economic aspects of the replacement of components and products in close cooperation with the local product managers.

Choosing sub-suppliers who are used globally (commercial negotiations together with purchasing).

Communication of product release notes (beta & final) to sales and PL-OF/PL-CP
SBU-wide harmonization of the technical specifications of his products, which are marketed worldwide, under consideration of the regionally different market requirements and customer needs.

Drawing up marketing information in the German and English languages, which are used SBU-wide as the basis for offers.

SBU-wide support backup for marketing (Technical sales support – Product Management - Development).

Organizing and carrying out product trainings for sales and marketing.

Assistance in the choice and evaluation of ""local"" product managers.

Recommendation of the yearly group R&D program to the BU/segment Manager. The actual assignment of development work in BU or - in the case of distributed development organizations - to the diverse locations is determined by the BU-Managers.

Your Profile:

Qualifications/Skills:

Driven, self starting individual with a passion for the business area and associated products.

Market oriented thinking, but with technical capability to translate market demands into implementable requirements.

BS/MS or equivalent with at least 5 years of experience in the field.

Excellent communication skills, especially sensitive to dealing with different cultures around the globe. A second language would be a definite plus.
