Dyax Corp.(Dyax) is a fully integrated biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of novel biotherapeutics for unmet medical needs. The Company's lead product, ecallantide, has been approved under the brand name KALBITOR® in the United States for the treatment of acute attacks of hereditary angioedema (HAE) in patients 16 years of age and older. As one of the most successful technology platforms in the industry, Dyax’s phage display technology has lead the discovery of KALBITOR and many additional products on the market or in clinical development. Dyax is continuously providing access to this technology offering through its Licensing and Funded Research Program (LFRP). Dyax is located in Burlington, MA.
Dyax is currently looking for an In-house Patent Counsel to join our legal team. The position will manage and direct Dyax’s intellectual property strategy and portfolios, including worldwide patent prosecution, European patent oppositions, and patent audit and opinion work. It is expected that In-house Patent Counsel will be able to work closely with Dyax research, product development and business development groups to advise and guide them on intellectual property matters. The position will also require the supervision of a patent administrator and eventually patent agents and other patent attorneys.
Essential Functions
Performing legal services related to the procurement and enforcement of protection for the
Company's intellectual property rights on a world-wide basis
Providing counsel to management with respect to such rights and for avoidance of infringement on the technical proprietary rights of others
Management of IP portfolio’s
Writing of patent applications for Research and Development projects
Leading the intellectual property role in assessing licensing opportunities
Interaction with outside counsels on the drafting and prosecuting patent applications

Required Experience
Position will report to the General Counsel.
This position minimally requires a Master’s degree in a biologic based scientific field (Ph.D. preferred) and a Doctor of Laws Degree (JD) from an accredited law school with five plus years of experience including three years as patent agent and/or attorney.
Candidate must be a member of at least one state or federal bar and the US PTO patent bar.
Familiarity with recent court decisions relating to patents, licenses, antitrust, secrets, and unfair competition is necessary.
Ability to analyze and recognize the significance of complex developments in several technological areas, such as molecular biology and pharmacology.
Ability to work independently and to communicate and deal with technical and non-technical people.
