Industrial/Manufacturing Engineer

Job Description
GENERAL FUNCTION: Plans and performs engineering research, to maximize efficiency of manufacturing operations. Assignments may include jig and fixture design, and/or plant remodeling or construction assignments to facilitate the handling, movement, and manufacture of division products. May provide work direction, or supervise projects.
Works under the general direction of the plant manager. Will work within different departments to facilitate continuous improvement.


TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMS ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING

Lead and participate in cross departmental continuous improvement teams to incorporate manufacturing best practices, employee ideas, and lean ideals.
Studies specifications and confers with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to manufacturing procedures.

Makes drawings and sketches; devises machines, jigs, fixtures, tooling, dies, and equipment for the manufacture of products.

Obtains quotes and prepares cost estimates for material, labor, and plan installation.

Determines most economical means of providing necessary equipment. Purchases, or directs purchasing of raw materials.

Reviews manufacturing operations. Maintains a current project schedule. Develops new procedures or adopts existing procedures for the manufacture of division products.

Designs new or modified facilities to accommodate manufacture of metal products.

Reviews new designs during the development of division products and recommends modifications where advisable to minimize cost and conform to production capabilities and limitations

Accumulates information and prepares feasibility studies to justify purchase or building of equipment required for new manufacturing methods

Performs time and motion studies where applicable.

Reviews plant efficiencies, processes and manpower in order to implement solutions to eliminate inefficiencies.

Will work within different departments to facilitate continuous improvement.




Required Skills
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Good to considerable knowledge of engineering procedures applicable to the manufacture of division products, or the ability to acquire it rapidly. Ability to design jigs, fixtures, and installations to meet manufacturing safety and cost containment objectives. Ability to lead and function on a team and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, vendors, and contractors.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING: B.S. Engineering degree (industrial or mechanical ) or the equivalent and some to considerable experience developing manufacturing procedures and designing tools combined with some supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and training which results in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Ability to design jigs, fixtures, and installations to meet manufacturing safety and cost containment objectives. A working knowledge and/or experience with continuous improvement.

Required Experience

Bachelors (Industrial / Mechanical) or equivalent relevant experience.
