Job Description | The Laboratory Scientist, Assay Development will develop novel assays and extensions of existing assays for DNA sequencing-related protocols, such as DNA preparation strategies for tumor sequencing and genome phasing, RNA sequencing, and stem cell genomic analyses. The assays will be pursued in a CLIA environment and will include working with a team of lab technicians for assay development.
In addition, the Scientist will develop novel DNA sequencing-related assays and extend existing assays in novel ways; implement and troubleshoot novel DNA sequencing-based laboratory assays; work with a team of laboratory production technicians to facilitate laboratory operations with novel methodologies; participate in the development and maintenance of CLIA protocols and identify areas of improvement and extension for the laboratory with the introduction of new assays. This will include, creating documentation to cover protocols for novel assay laboratory operations, identifying more efficient protocols for laboratory operations and assisting in the evaluation and monitoring of new protocols and CLIA certification processes.
Qualified candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in molecular biology, biological chemistry or a related laboratory-based program, 5+ years’ experience working in CLIA certified laboratory settings and operations, 5+ years in extensive experience with high-throughput laboratory operations and a current California issued CLS license. In addition, 8+ years of experience in genomic assay development in an academic or industrial setting, a distinguished track record and publication history in genomic assay development, 8+ years of experience in a laboratory setting with extensive need for high-throughput capabilities, flexibility in DNA sequencing assay development, including DNA preparation protocols and sequencing assay protocols and 8+ years of experience working in a team-environment pursuing large-scale biological initiatives, is highly desirable. |
