Position Purpose:

This position will be a working supervisor. This is a leadership role in the Loss Prevention Department and the Company. The position will support the loss control services provided to the Company using the skills, technical knowledge and experience of the loss control consultants. Also, the position will provide loss control consultative support to our customers (Branches, Agents, and Policyholders). This would include providing loss control services to our policyholders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the following essential duties and responsibilities satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.

Provide assistance to loss control consultants on matters pertaining to enhancing job performance in providing loss control services which could include Coaching, Counseling, and motivating employees.

Complete report reviews and provide suggestions to enhance report writing skills as well as providing loss control services.

Assist the consultants in meeting their performance goals.

Assist employee development by recognizing needs and providing or supporting appropriate training.

Provide high quality, cost effective service to our customers which consistently meets or exceeds their expectations, and assists them in minimizing their losses.

Help coordinate and maintain targeted loss control files as required by statutory requirements.

Other Duties:

Provide new employee orientation, monitor and manage employee performance.

Maintain good working relations with Branch Managers, Associates, Agents and Policyholders.

Provide timely, professional reports and consultative support to our underwriters and other functions, as may be needed to assist in superior risk selection, pricing and retention of profitable business.

Assist in the development of innovative, distinctive and cost effective service methods and tools to identify and quantify risk, and reduce losses.

Performance Expectations:

This position will be assessed based on achievement of the following elements of performance:

Other additional elements of performance will impact this position and will be provided by the supervisor of this position..

Required Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Occupational Health & Safety, or one of the Applied Sciences;

Preferred Certified Safety Professional (CSP Designation) or must have either a ALCM or OSHT or ARM or ASP or other similar Safety Designation;

A minimum of ten years in the insurance industry providing loss control services;

Knowledge of insurance coverage

Some supervisory experience preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect an evaluate data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general loss control statutory requirements, professional safety journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Ability to effectively orally communicate or present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, agents, and other employees of the organization.

Ability to utilize PC software and proprietary company systems.

Ability to project a warm and friendly manner in all business contacts and maintain a professional relationship with fellow workers, agency contacts, and the public.

Work Environment:
Functions generally performed in the field will require consultant to meet with the branch underwriters of the territory serviced to provide consultative services as needed and to build a quality customer relationship. Must be able to work as a team member to solve problems and exchange information. External and internal contact will exist with agents, underwriters, USIG management, claim representatives, loss control consultants, vendors and policyholders. Minimum overnight travel.

Physical Demands:
Sedentary position which involves sitting and keyboarding, talking and hearing, some walking, lifting (10 lbs. or less), carrying, kneeling and bending. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision and ability to adjust focus. Some travel and overnight-out-of-town stays may be required.
