With headquarters in Canton, Ohio, we operate steelmaking centers in Canton and Lorain, Ohio, and value-added rolling and finishing facilities in Canton, Lorain and Massillon, Ohio; Lackawanna, N.Y.; Gary, Indiana; and Hamilton, Ontario.
Republic has an immediate opportunity for a skilled maintenance engineer to oversee process improvement projects related to maintenance at our Canton, Ohio steelmaking facility.
Job Responsibilities include:
Managing and implementing process improvement projects in an effort to improve quality, increase productivity, and therefore reduce the cost to produce.
Driving continuous improvement initiatives, performing root cause analysis on system and equipment failures in an effort to reduce equipment downtime.
Utilizing 6 sigma tools and strategies while implementing and defining process improvement projects.
Improving overall uptime in the facilities: Assisting with development and implementation of capital projects to improve overall performance.
Troubleshooting equipment problems, identifying need for new equipment and/or modifications to existing equipment to optimize performance.
Utilizing facts, data, and sound engineering practices to get to the ""Root Cause"" of equipment failures and to come up with practical solutions to the problem.
Participating in internal and external audits and inspections.
Collaborating with other maintenance personnel as required to ensure that project solutions and evaluations are for the good of the plant and company as a whole and not limited to the assigned area.
Providing technical support for specific plant operations. Maintaining regular contact with others outside the work group.
Directing and coordinating minor and/or major capital projects.
Implementing safety and good housekeeping standards. Adhering to Republic policies and procedures.
Ensuring compliance with all quality standards (i.e., TS 16949) and environmental regulations. Managing continuous improvement.
Job Requirements
B.S. degree in an Engineering discipline or related field of study.
Demonstrated understanding of Steelmaking Processes and equipment. Demonstrated basic understanding of assigned operating department processes and equipment.
Experience in Process Improvement, Statistical Process Control, 5-S, and SMED
6 Six Black Training and relevant experience using statistical tools to problem solve in a manufacturing environment following the DMAIC methodologies.
Demonstrated understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principals and practices.
Demonstrated knowledge of QS, ISO, and TS; EPA and OSHA regulations,
General business know-how: budgeting, planning, purchasing, etc. and basic understanding of cost accounting
Computer skills: data management, database management and reporting, excel, word processing, spreadsheets, power point, email, internet
Interpersonal skills: demonstrated ability to relate to all types of people; demonstrated trust and integrity.
Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills.
Must be self motivated and have the ability to work with limited direction.
Demonstrated problem solving, analytical and organizational skills.
Written and verbal communication skills, including strong listening skills.
Demonstrated flexibility and resilience.
