Portola Pharmaceuticals, Inc. was founded in 2003 and is headquartered in South San Francisco, Calif. We completed an initial public offering in May 2013 and are traded on the Nasdaq Stock Market under the symbol PTLA. At Portola, our goal is to build an enduring biopharmaceutical company with compounds from our own research efforts that advance the care of patients in the areas of thrombosis (blood clots), other hematologic disorders and inflammation. Our development-stage portfolio includes three 100 percent-owned clinical-stage assets; betrixaban and andexanet alfa (PRT4445) which address significant unmet medical needs in the area of thrombosis; and PRT2070, our orally available kinase inhibitor with unique pharmacologic properties that targets hematologic cancers.
Role Profile:
The Manager/Senior Manager, Project Management, supports senior Project Management staff and works with the Project Team Lead in coordinating all aspects of communication and activities related to a late-stage BLA-ready project. This person will prepare for, attend, and follow-up for internal working group meetings; create and manage critical cross-functional timelines; coordinate the document review process; manage the project files; prepare project activity tracking reports; and provide project management support to the clinical development organization.
Essential/Primary Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
* Establish and maintain functionally integrated project schedules and other tracking tools to enable accurate project management across various functional areas
* Work closely with the Clinical Operations, Clinical Development and Data Management groups to publish and track clinical metrics
* Schedule, organize, and drive project team meeting(s): prepare and distribute agendas/minutes; track action items, and escalate areas of concern to appropriate management entity
* Facilitate communication of sub-team issues & outcomes to the Core Team/Project team leader
* Manage the interfaces between functional areas and ensure effective handoff and communication between department functions to execute on important project milestones
* Works with project Lead and/or SME to prepare status reports, specific project updates, or scenarios
* Manage document review practice to support BLA submission activities and other key project deliverables
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Requirements:
* A BA or BS degree in the Life Sciences
* The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years multi-disciplinary experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry, with at least 2 years direct project management in drug development, and PMP (Project Management Professional) certification or equivalent a plus
* Relevant experience consists of work with specific experience in Clinical Operations, biotech or pharma association with R&D project teams and/or in cross-functional project management activities
* Advanced proficiency and experience using Project Management software (including MS project, Excel, Word, Visio and PowerPoint) to manage and maintain complex project timelines
* Experience with BLA/NDA submissions preferred
* Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop important relationships with customers and key stakeholders, good conflict management skills
* Results and detail-oriented; self-motivated
* Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines
