Job Description | Chandler Industries/Arrow produces complex machined and fabricated components for the top aerospace companies in the world. We manufacture components on numerous sub-systems for military, commercial, and business aircraft including; Engines, Airframes, Environmental Control Systems, Fuel Systems, Hydraulic Systems, and many more. In addition, we produce complex machined components for medical equipment OEM?s that require precise tolerances, complex assembly, and high quality finishes.
Manufacturing Engineer Position Summary: Responsible for project management and creating manufacturing operations for new product introduction and revisions using customer designs from quotation stage through final production. Using lean principles improves manufacturing quality and productivity in machining, fabrication, special processes and assembly.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Project owner for new product introduction and customer change requests. Participates in NPI and ECN reviews identify risks, resources, equipment, processes, capacity, measurements, and cost associated product manufacturing. Project coordinator from quote stage through to final production. Records for evidence that realization process and resulting product meet requirements.
- Responsible to enter/create all methods of manufacturing, and controlling revision levels of parts and review and interpret associated specification into the MRP/ERP system. Create job routers, BOMs, and develop approved rework procedures and work instructions.
- Coordinate CNC programming, cutting tools, fixture design, and inspection plans with internal teams.
- Coordinate pre-production and testing with operation teams resolving any non-conformances, quality, and productivity issues.
- Provide on-going disposition of non-conforming material and parts including performing root cause analysis, failure analysis, and control plans. Drives corrective action to closure.
- Provide quality customer interface and expertise to proactively assure requirements are understood and satisfied. Work collaboratively with customers to identify quality gaps, corrective action resolution, and continued improvement with performance is achieved to meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Utilize programs, such as lean/six sigma, continuous improvement, SPC, and FMEA to identify best practices and drive productivity and quality improvements throughout the organization including process flow, eliminate waste, and reduce costs. Identifies and coordinates opportunities for reducing manufacturing set-up time, cycle time, labor hours, WIP.
Competency Required:
Technical ? Ability to develop and design processes, procedures, and control techniques from customer design inception to final production; Demonstrated ability to interpret and use schematics and engineering design drawings; Strong knowledge of CNC machining/programming, fabrication, and assembly operations; Good knowledge of cutting tools, fixture design, and production capacity; Strong knowledge of problem solving tools; Expertise with statistical process control methods, monitoring and control, data and defect analysis, variance reduction, and capability analysis; Ability to operate within a Quality Systems following processes and procedures; Comprehensive knowledge of internal auditing methods and procedures, NADCAP and AS 9100; Understanding of Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis and control plan; Expertise with product, process inspection and testing techniques, tools, and equipment; Strong knowledge of metrology, gage critical, general issue and calibration certification program; Comprehensive knowledge of quality at the source techniques, root cause analysis, corrective action, continuous improvement, lean and six sigma; Good knowledge of heat treat, metallurgy, fusion welding, resistant welding, radiographic inspection, non-destructive testing-Penetrant, chemical processing; Strong knowledge of engineering design and product reliability concepts.
Project Management- Must be able to drive multiple projects to successful completion.
Computer Skills- Proficient with SolidWorks, MS Office Suite, and Enterprise System Software.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor?s degree in Engineering, Technical Science, or related field, and; At least 3 years related experience in a CNC machining manufacturing environment; OR; At least 5 years related experience may be substituted.
- Experience in the Aerospace & Defense sub contractual supplier to OEM role is preferred.
- AS9100 and NADCAP experience is preferred.
