The Manufacturing Engineer provides controls and electrical engineering support of manufacturing equipment and processes including initial system design/implementation, along with optimization and troubleshooting of existing systems. Develops and drives evaluation and implementation of manufacturing and production monitoring, notification and control systems to improve overall operational effectiveness and productivity. Continuously searches for and implements new opportunities and innovative solutions, utilizing technical capabilities to advance and drive operations forward. Manages multiple assignments and projects in an effective manner to complete on schedule/on budget. Provides technical expertise and assistance when required in resolution of issues or in development of new products.
Specific Duties Include:
Develops or provides assistance in the electrical design, fabrication, and testing/qualification of new machines and manufacturing systems.
Designs and directs implementation of hardware, software, and network control circuitry.
Identifies and implements software systems and hardware controls to integrate communication/monitoring of multiple machines/components, and operations cells.
Develops or provides assistance in the implementation of various manufacturing execution systems with selection/recommendation/application of software/hardware components.
Implements safety considerations and elements in all designs and projects.
Embraces and utilizes LEAN principles to work on cross-functional teams to drive effective manufacturing solutions.
Maintains up to date awareness of all new systems technologies and ascertains applicability and possible cost benefit of each new systems.
Develops and manages execution of projects using applicable project management tools and resources.
Develops and conducts appropriate training of documents and procedures
Skills, Training, Experience Required:
BSEE in Engineering with 5+ years of experience in industrial controls, PLC’s and manufacturing communication systems.
Proficiency in development and application of various mfg monitoring systems including motion controls, vision systems, HMI systems.
Ability to demonstrate applied innovation, lead brainstorming sessions, choose appropriate concepts for refinement and provide a plan for refinement of chosen ideas.
Previous experience in successfully developing new technologies and driving improvements.
Familiar with CAD and able to apply in performance of assignments.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to present recommendations to upper management using applicable computer software including MS Office Suite, ePM, and Oracle is required.
Knowledge of electrical engineering and computer/network systems standards.
Knowledge of general Manufacturing, Lean, and Quality principles/methods.
Experience working with outside vendors.
Input, retrieve and transmit data for up to 8 hours per day.
Ability to travel to other Panduit, customer and supplier locations, as needed.
Position will require 5-10% travel offsite.
